Dr Gretchen Good and Dr Suzanne Phibbs recently had their study on the experiences of 12 visually impaired residents who lived through Canterbury's major earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 published in the Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness. Dr Good spoke to Stuff.co.nz about the need to better prepare communities, agencies, families and individuals for potential disasters.

These big, green eyes didn’t always know what kindness was, or how kittens should start out in life. Left in a cardboard box with his three siblings, Chester was abandoned by the very person he should have been able to trust most.

These four little kittens had no food, and no water. They were left in the darkness and abandoned with nothing to take comfort in other than each other.
