Today on #Shivaratri, sharing Amma's benediction delivered at the conclusion of last year's Shivaratri celebration at Amritapuri. It's a message worth contemplating today. “May the light of knowledge dispel the darkness of ignorance in everyone. May all my children gain the awareness of unity and become beneficial to the world. Instead of thinking what we have gained, let us think what we can...

Amma on #Shivaratri: "No matter how turbulent the situation, the Lord Shiva’s head and inner realm remains peaceful. Though the head is cool, the heart is always warm with compassion for the world. What we need is a cool head and a warm heart. But what we see in the world today is the very opposite: most people are hot-headed and cold-hearted. Everyone’s head is heated up by worldly thoughts,...

“Most people only have one mantra: ‘I… I… I…’ When people perform actions with only the end-result in mind, they will not hesitate to do anything to attain that end—even commit crimes. Such a self-serving perspective makes people consider everyone else as enemies. In the throes of blind competition to keep everything under their control, humanity’s efforts become insincere and incomplete. It...

"The common expression is, ‘I love you.’ But, instead of
‘I love you,’ it would be better to say, ‘I am love—I am the
embodiment of Pure Love.’ Remove the I and you, and you
will find that there is only Love. It is as if Love is imprisoned
between the I and you. Remove the I and you, for they are
unreal; they are self-imposed walls that don’t exist. The gulf
between I and you is the ego. When...

“The circumstances of life will always keep changing. Change is nature’s unchanging law. However, it is we who make experiences bitter or sweet—our mind and our attitude. As long as we are unable to bring our mind under our control, sorrow will continue to hunt us down. However, once the mind comes under our control, then no problem or tragedy can devastate or paralyze us.” -Amma in Dindigul,...

“We should not forget that, in order for us to truly feel national pride, even those at the bottom rung of society should be in a position to live a life of dignity. We should be willing to put in the effort to make that a reality. There is no religion or scripture greater than comforting the sorrowful, encouraging the weary, and offering a helping hand to the struggling.” -Amma in...

"Don’t think that meditation means only sitting with your eyes closed. A smiling face, a kind word, a compassionate glance, all this is part of meditation. Through meditation, our hearts should become compassionate. Only in such a heart can God shine! We should
come to feel the suffering of others and share their suffering." -Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi)

The African nation of Burkina Faso has less than 1,000 doctors in the entire country—that’s less than one doctor for every 10,000 people. That's one reason our team of Embracing the World doctors decided to make the trip and conduct an eye camp there. Working long hours, our team was able to perform 219 cataract surgeries in just 9 days. One patient touched the hearts of our volunteers deeply:...
