German painter Anselm Kiefer was born #onthisday in 1945. Palette, 1981, was #ArtFunded in 2008 for Tate and National Galleries of Scotland and depicts a traditional artist’s palette suspended between two strands of burning rope. The palette motif recurs in many of Kiefer's paintings and he has said that it represents the idea of the artist connecting heaven and earth.
