Yesterday NHS England released a statement saying that they were 'confident' that they'll be able to confirm funding for second stem cell transplants in a dramatic U-turn from their original position to remove funding.

On December 30th last year Jane Leahy was readmitted to hospital with a high temperature which had spiked for the first time since her stem cell transplant for AML.

The first patient has been recruited for a new clinical trial looking into a rare form of leukaemia. Around 450 people are diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) in the UK each year.

The MONOCLE study, part funded by Bloodwise, is the only of its kind in the UK and aims to determine the tolerability and safety of the drug Tefinostat when treating CMML.
