"I ride the lead pony, I ride one horse and I lead another. I probably work around three to six horses most mornings. The pony will probably get maybe one or two days off a week. It’s a great job, the pony loves it and I love it." - Paula Aurichem, Stablehand at Mick Price Racing

"It’s a different world at Caulfield. You’re in the city, so when you’re out of here you’re out in the open, but once we come in here, the city doesn’t exist – this is another world. At 4am, it’s a completely different world here. It’s not peaceful, it’s not noisy – there is just a lot of things going on. We are getting horses ready for exercise out on the track so it’s pretty full on." - Ben...

Relax and enjoy Summer Racing at Caulfield this Australia Day!
Congratulations Mali and Monique! What a spot to propose - the Caulfield Mounting Yard!

Wishing you both the very best!
"It gets the horses out of the box, it’s now more of a training regime. The pool gets them out and keeps them fit. A lot of them swim after they have trained as well. A lot of athletes do it as well – run and then swim, it’s just their training. We get up to 300-400 in a day in the summer. All the trainers are different. Mick Price will probably swim 15-16 in the afternoon, but in the morning...

"I got my own pony, and then I got my own horse – I think I was around 15. I had to go out and pick apples, I think I only made enough money for the rug. My mum actually picked apples with me, and she made enough to actually buy the horse. It was my very first horse that I actually owned, and that was great. " - Betty Crawford, Stablehand at Caulfield.

“I start at 3:30am, get into the boxes, saddle them up, the horses are run out and swum. Each and every day they do two laps of the pool – morning and afternoon. They do gallops around the track on Tuesday and Saturday and sometimes Thursday. I went to the trials yesterday at Pakenham - it was a long day - 13 hours exactly. I came back and did the afternoon as well. I live in Reservoir, so it...

It's been a huge year at Melbourne Racing Club, both on and off the track.

A big thank you to everyone who enjoyed the races at one of our three tracks or came to check out Gourmet Cinema and The Peninsula Picnic.

Wishing you all a very merry start to 2017! Here's just a handful of the highlights from 2016...
“Sonntag is my favourite - we’ve done just about everything together. He’s a pleasure to deal with in his everyday manners. He’s really laid back, he’s a gentleman and doesn’t do too much at work, just cruises around, a pretty casual kind of horse. He is probably the easiest horse here to ride. Just his attitude, he’s relaxed and doesn’t want to do too much here, so it makes my job pretty...

“I’ve worked at Caulfield for about 16 years I think it is, I’ve lost track. I started on the turnstiles but that only lasted a few weeks and then they put me in [the lift] and that was it, I’ve been here ever since. The best part would be the people, they’re all friendly. Because I have been here so long it’s sort of been like a family. Denis Napthine got in the lift one day and see that...

It's summer racing, and it's coming to Caulfield today!

Gates now open - see you soon! [ Bit.ly Link ]
It's twenty years today since one of the most incredible feats in jockey/horse racing history, when brothers-in-law Jason Patton and Andrew Payne "swapped" horses mid-race.

We still have no idea how Andrew managed to get a leg over that horse.
