It's the time of year where Central Park's lawns take a long winter nap!

Fall and winter are an important time for turf management, so you will find several of our lawns—including the Great Lawn, Sheep Meadow, and North Meadow—are closed as of last week. They will reopen in early April.

Central Park is home to approximately 20,000 trees, making fall one of the most colorfully spectacular seasons to visit.

From September to November 2016, we tracked the autumn journey of one extraordinary tree in Central Park: the three-trunked black tupelo (sourgum) at the south end of Tupelo Meadow in the Ramble.
