He says his favorite technique when connecting with his patients is sitting on a tiny chair and getting eye level with kids to introduce himself.

It can be tough for kids to spend all day in the hospital, but today, Viva Creative brought virtual reality magic to our patients! Thanks to VR technology, our patients were able to tour the The Gaylord-National Harbor's beautiful ice exhibit from their hospital rooms.
120,000+ emergency room visits. 16,979 surgeries. 1,183,182 lab tests. Countless hugs, smiles, and lifted spirits. These are just a few of the amazing things Children’s National was able to accomplish last year thanks to the generous support of our community.

Just one year after being diagnosed with cancer, one Children's National patient returned to our cancer ward to give back and spread cheer to the kids who couldn't go home for the holidays this year.

There's still time left in 2016 to be a hero like Lucas and the MPD officers who helped raise money to support his mission. Show your support for Children's National patients and their families...

Christmas is all about giving and spreading joy. Merry Christmas to all our patients, families, care teams, and staff who are spending their holiday at Children’s National. How adorable are these photos of some of our tiniest NICU patients getting into the holiday spirit?
Merry Christmas Eve! Here’s a special behind-the-scenes time lapse video featuring some of our incredible volunteers decorating the Christmas tree in our Main Atrium.
On this Christmas Eve, we’d like to share photos from our first annual tree lighting ceremony! Guitarist Barry, jazz trumpeter Freddie Dunn, cellist Benjamin Gates and the DC Youth Orchestra Program added to the celebration as volunteers and patients decorated. Patients and families also enjoyed holiday activities, photos with Dr. Bear, and relaxing by our Children’s National fireplace!
The holidays are a hard time to be away from home, but hundreds of kids are admitted to Children’s National every holiday season. That’s why we are so grateful for our staff, who work countless hours to care for our patients all year long, and for groups like the MAC Foundation, who help our staff spread holiday cheer. Each year, this group brings professional sports players to spend time with...
