The failure of Trumpcare is a victory for millions of everyday Americans who didn’t want to see their healthcare costs rise, their coverage worsen, and millions more people uninsured, all to give the wealthiest individuals and corporations a massive tax cut. Today’s outcome is a testament to countless Americans who made their voices heard in this process, and who took the time to write, email,...

The costs of the #KeystoneXL pipeline far outweigh the benefits, causing widespread damage to our environment and communities in order to create only 50 permanent jobs according to the State Department. President Trump's decision to move forward with the pipeline is shortsighted and a step in the wrong direction.

We must continue to fight for people like Marta whose heartbreaking story shows us all just what's at stake. This Republican health care bill will destroy far too American lives in order to give a huge tax cut for the wealthiest Americans.

We can't let up for a moment – please continue to call your Representative at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to vote “no” on Trumpcare.

Amid all the noise, it’s easy to lose sight of the human impact of President Trump’s devastating health care plan.

In a matter of hours, House Republicans could vote to dramatically raise health care costs and take coverage away from 24 million people – including millions of children, seniors, and disabled Americans who are covered by Medicaid.

These numbers are staggering – but the...

Right now, we are seeing a crisis of epic proportions in South Sudan. Nearly half of the population is in urgent need of food assistance, and a tragic one million human beings are on the brink of starvation.

This is truly a test of humanity. We have so much power as a people to help each other, empower each other, to strengthen those bonds that tie humanity together. We cannot just sit idly...

We must fix America's mass incarceration problem which is draining the potential of our nation.

The US has only about 5% of the world’s population but nearly 25% of its prison population. Since 1980, our federal prison population has exploded by nearly 800 percent, and more people are in prison today for drug offenses than were incarcerated for any reason at all in 1980. This increase is a...

Van Jones and and Ryan P. Haygood: Trump is wrong on criminal justice

FBI Director Comey made it clear: both the FBI and the Department of Justice have found no evidence to back up President Trump's tweet accusing Obama of "wire tapping" him.

For Trump to make such serious unverified accusations over Twitter is reckless and nothing but a distraction from real threats to America – like Russia's confirmed interference in our election.

President Trump owes an...

Trump's budget proposal inflicts more harm on the poor in order to increase the budget for our military. We already spend more on our military than the next 7 countries combined. It's time we got our priorities straight and make investments in our people to achieve a better future for all.

This profoundly cruel budget comes one week after House Republicans’ released their Obamacare repeal...

There is an important health program that is under direct attack in Trumpcare: Medicaid. Who exactly does Medicaid cover?

1. Kids:
Nearly half of Medicaid beneficiaries are children, and nearly half of all births in this country are covered by Medicaid. In fact, children on Medicaid are more likely to perform better in school, miss fewer days of school, and pursue higher education.

It makes deep cuts to Meals on Wheels, health & science research, funding for the arts, clean air & water programs, affordable housing, education grants for teacher training, federal work-study aid for college students, and much more.

Many people are shocked when they hear that for years we've had an immigration detention bed quota in the United States of 34,000 people – meaning that, no matter what, we have to keep at least 34,000 people locked up. How does an arbitrary quota benefit public safety? It doesn’t. So, who actually benefits from this situation? Private prison corporations.

Most of these immigration detention...

We should be sincerely concerned with Secretary of State Tillerson's avoidance of the media. Secretary Tillerson embarked on his first major foreign trip without traveling press -- a standard practice that helps ensure transparency and accountability when conducting official work on behalf of the United States government.

One of the most outrageous components of Trump's reckless budget proposal is it would cut the Environmental Protection Agency's budget by a whopping 31% to its lowest level in 40 years, adjusted for inflation. At a time when our planet faces increasing threats from global warming, when toxic superfund sights are increasing, when we have persistent health challenges from lead to dioxides in our...

President Trump’s budget would set our country back and make hardworking Americans suffer - instead of making critical investments now he shifts costs and burdens to future generation.

If adopted by Congress, it would stifle our nation's economic competitiveness, hurt the most vulnerable among us, and make our country less safe.

By gutting the institutions that protect the rights of...

With everything going on in our country — from critical issues concerning health care to immigration to civil rights and more — why is the Republican-controlled Congress prioritizing a resolution that would overturn protections for Alaska's national wildlife refuges that prohibit some of the most cruel and savage practices to kill animals?

Their resolution would allow people to kill wolves...

While the new Republican health care bill will cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans earning over $250,000 per year, many of the poorest Americans will see an increase in their health care costs, disproportionally affecting those living in rural areas. This shifting of the health care burden from the rich to the poor is unacceptable and a betrayal of President Trump's promise of "great health...
