A Montreal woman believed to have been the last Canadian to have survived the Armenian genocide died on Thursday, just weeks shy of her 108th birthday.

Born in 1909, Knar Bohjelian Yemenidjian was only six years old in 1915 when the Ottoman Turks began their massacre. An estimated 1.5 million people were killed.

Three years after the death of local search and rescue hero Tim Jones, a peak on the North Shore Mountains is being named in his memory.

The honour recognizes Jones's tireless work advocating for backcountry safety, and the hundreds of lives he helped protect volunteering with North Shore Rescue, the B.C. government said while announcing the dedication Friday.

The family of a 16-month-old child who died in East Vancouver this week has confirmed the toddler was involved in a tragic accident at daycare.

Friends and relatives have also put together an online fundraiser that identifies the victim as "Baby Mac," describing him as a joyful tot whose short life was surrounded by love.
