Another fun Twitter post by a user known as Vampire Council, who this time wondered which Hogwarts class the various characters from my vampire books might be sorted into. It's been a while since I read the Harry Potter books, so I don't exactly recall the differences between the four classes, so I'll leave it you guys to agree or disagree as you see fit. :-)

I went to see Roddy Doyle's play, Two Pints, in Dolans in Limerick last night. It's adapted from a couple of books that he's published over the last several years, which in turn were collections of blog posts that he'd written. Each post consists solely of dialogue, between two friends in a pub, discussing the big (and small) issues of the day. The posts are usually about what's going on in... View more »

Good news for British fans of my books for adults. I had to raise the price of my Darren Dash ebooks a few months ago, because of sterling's dramatic decline. While the pound is still struggling, it's picked up a bit, which has allowed me to lower the price again -- so all three Darren Dash books are now just £1.99 through Kindle. (They've remained constant at $2.99 in the USA, and are €2.99... View more »

We saw a tattoo of the Cirque Du Freak in yesterday's post, and here's another recreation of the world most infamous touring show. But this one was created by the talented pupils of Bearwood Primary School, and it's in 3D, not ink. It's a wonderful example of how a creative teacher can help their students get a lot of fun out of a book, and take it beyond a simple reading exercise in... View more »

Tattoo Tuesday refuses to lie down and die, so here's another glorious tattoo inspired by my books, and this must be one of the most colourful and eye-catching to date! It adorns the upper thigh of a fan called Josh, and all I can say is, if any ants ever go crawling up Josh's leg, boy, are they in for a big surprise!!! :-)

Zom-B Fugitive, book 11 in my Zom-B series, is now on sale as a... View more »

Sad to hear that George A Romero has died. Zombies have been huge business for most of the last decade, and I tried my hand at them myself with my Zom-B books, but all of us who've been bringing the dead back to life since the late 1960s have been shuffling along in Romero's brain-munching shadow. He's the true father of the modern zombie, the same way that Bram Stoker is the true father of... View more »

"When someone asks you ‘what do you do for a living’ – How do you respond?"

"Can you remember the first story you ever wrote?"

"What two pieces of advice would you give a young aspiring writer?"

If you'd like to find out the answers to these questions and a whole lot more, check out a lengthy new interview with me over on The Reading Lists. I talk about writing and reading and about the... View more »

As promised, some more photos from the Shan clan's holiday to Lanzarote last month, so you can see what the Master of Horror gets up to when he swaps the shadows for the sunlight! Sticking our tongues out for photos is a very Shan thing -- I seem to remember Mrs Shan and I doing this in the very first set of photos we ever took with Dante, not long after he was born. (Though it's taken him a... View more »

A new statue of the radio and TV presenter, Terry Wogan, has been stirring up a lot of controversy in my home town of Limerick recently. Mr Wogan was from Limerick originally, which is why a departing mayor decided to approve a plan to erect a statue in his honour. But it seems that the mayor wanted to make sure the statue went up before he left office, so he pushed the bidding and creating... View more »

I went to see Angela's Ashes: The Musical in Limerick last night. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed it. Good songs, a strong cast, and it was nicely paced -- at no point did it drag. I wasn't sure the book would adapt well to a musical, but I was glad to be proved wrong. I recommend going to have a look if it comes to a theatre near you in the near future.
My Zom-B books are being issued in cool new paperback editions in the UK. The first ten books have already been released, and book 11, Zom-B Fugitive, hits bookshops TODAY!! (The 12th and final book goes on sale in October.) If you haven't yet given the series a go, this would be a good time to get onboard, as you'll probably be able to catch up on all the action ahead of the release of the... View more »

I've drawn the winners of the July Shanville Monthly competition, and they are...

1st -- Rebecca Nadin, England.

2nd -- Luke Ryan, England.

3rd -- Nykita Dinsmore, USA.

If the three winners could get together to celebrate, I imagine they'd look a lot like this sweet trio at the Cirque Du Freak, drawn by a fan called Rindy as a birthday present to me earlier this month. :-)

While I like to think that I'm technologically up to date in many ways, I'm also old school in lots of other ways. For instance, although I use tablets, especially when I travel, I have a big old PC on my desk, and that's where I spend most of my work time when I'm at home. There's a monitor, a keyboard and mouse. And, of course, a mouse mat. Rather than buy standard mouse mats, I make my own,... View more »

I had a wild old time at the Pixies gig in Trinity College last night. I started out watching it from the side with my cousin Kealan, but then, about midway through, an old guy (i.e. someone my age!) with a long beard grabbed me and pulled me into the middle of the mosh pit, and there was no going back after that -- I was writhing with a lot of other men in their mid forties, all of us... A fan called Amber let her younger brother borrow Cirque Du Freak recently. In response he pulled together this picture of Mr Crepsley for her, and included a short note that will tug at your heartstrings, especially if you have a younger sibling -- my advice is to reach for a box of tissues before you read it!!! :-)

Tonight I'm gonna grow up to be a debaser, ride a wave of mutilation, and ask Where Is My Mind?!? "Is Shan going crazy?" you ask. No -- I'm going to see Pixies play in Trinity College in Dublin!!! They're one of my all-time favourite bands, ever since I discovered them with Doolittle in the 1980s when they were in their prime. I'm still a huge fan all these years later, and enjoying their new... View more »

Mrs Shan tells me that Dante woke with a nightmare at 5.35am this morning. They had the following conversation as she was trying to calm him down.

Mrs Shan: What did you dream?

Dante: Darren's dead, the rat dog killed him and then he sank to the bottom of the water.

That's my boy!!!!!! :-) :-) :-)
