We did Tattoo Tuesday last week, and I mused how it would be cool if that was actually a thing... so let's keep it going and see if we can actually make a go of it!! (I very much doubt we will.) This one, which adorns the back of a fan called Gabor, was taken from the cover design on the UK editions of my Demonata books. It's certainly an eye-catching use of the logo, grand in scale and... I had a couple of queries from different fans recently, asking about which of my books are available in audio format. Well, it's a bit complicated, given how many books I've released, and that different versions have sometimes been released in the UK and USA, but here's the situation as it currently stands. I'm not going to include cassette tape adaptations, or foreign language audio books, of... View details ⇨
I was watching one of the music channels on TV recently, and they were playing 1980s songs. "Heart" by The Pet Shop Boys came on, and even though I've been a lukewarm fan of the group since they first started releasing their music, I couldn't recall seeing the video to this, so I was half-watching it while reading a book at the same time. It was... View details ⇨
A fan called Katie used the Sims 4 Vampires game pack to create some familiar looking characters. Can YOU name all four?!?
Meanwhile, another fan, called Emma, decided to pair up Grubbs Grady from my Demonata series with B Smith from my Zom-B books. If I was a vicious predator intent on taking over the world, I wouldn't want to run up against this pair!!!! :-)
I hit New York a few hours ago to spend the weekend here to celebrate the 15th anniversary of my first date with Mrs Shan. I was going to come by myself, but then figured I'd be nice and bring her along. :-) I used to love getting hotdogs in Gray's Papaya years ago whenever I visited the Big Apple, but those shops shut down a while back -- but, hey, Nathan's isn't a bad backup!!!! That one in... View details ⇨
This is a sweet school essay that a fan of my books wrote several years ago. She came across it again recently and shared it with me. It sounds like it would have been a nice meal. My only quibble would have been the salad at the start -- I'm not much of a fan of salads! So, what would YOU serve up if you were preparing a meal for the so-called master of YA horror?!? :-)
Here's a rocking drawing of the character Darren Shan by a fan called Dantie. I wish I looked that cool in real life!! :-) For lots (and lots, and lots) more fan art, check out the (very infrequently updated) fan art pages over on my web site: [ Darrenshan.com Link ]
There are many books over the years that we've fallen in love with, but for most of us there is one particular book or author that truly cemented our love of books and reading.
Today we want to celebrate your bookish first love. Who was it that first captured your heart with their words, or who reignited your love of reading after a prolonged absence? Leave us a comment and let us know ❤❤
It's tattoo Tuesday! (Wouldn't it be cool if that was an actual thing?!?) This is a pic of the latest Shanster to get a tattoo based on a quote from my books. In this case it's a fan called Jordan, who added an unusual image to the mix, in honor of her fighting grandparents.
So -- what would be the perfect Darren Shan Valentine's Day book for those of you of a romantic but dark and menacing disposition?!? There's actually far more romance in my books than a lot of people might believe -- Darren and Debbie, Larten and Arra, Jebel Rum and his true love. We got to meet the three loves of Mr Crepsley's life in The Saga Of Larten Crepsley. We had a book called Zom-B... View details ⇨
The horror site Ginger Nuts Of Horror interviewed me a couple of months ago to talk about my Darren Dash books for adults, in particular the latest, An Other Place. I've posted a link to the review here before, but it's a major review that covers a lot of ground, so in case any of you missed it first time round, here it is again. [ Gingernutsofhorror.com Link ]
I went to a David Bowie Tribute Concert in Dolans Warehouse in Limerick on Friday. It was great. I normally don't have a lot of time for tribute bands, but this was different, a coming together of several bands who weren't trying to make money by mimicking Bowie, just playing his songs out of respect for the dude. Of course, with a back catalogue as wide and varied as his, it was impossible... View details ⇨
Good, honest, truth-seeking journalists are needed now more than ever, so it's good to see some of them are starting young, in the High School Insider section of the Los Angeles Times. One of those young journalists is Isaias Garcia, and even though his ultimate goal is to become a firefighter, he's a pretty good writer too. I was chuffed to see him mention that my books were what first got... View details ⇨
Not in the world of Darren Shan! Because there were THREE winners in the February Shanville Monthly competition, each of whom will receive a signed copy of the second edition of Sunburn, the second book I published for adults under the name of Darren Dash. And those winners are:
Last few hours left to enter the February Shanville Monthly competition. Three signed, rare copies of Sunburn up for grabs. If you're 16 or older, and want to read about a naked, badly sunburnt guy squaring up to a very unusual monster in the forested mountains of Bulgaria (and who doesn't?!?) this is the book for you!!! But act quick -- entries close at midnight UK time TONIGHT!!! [... View details ⇨
It's competition time!! I recently released a new edition of "Sunburn," my second book for adults that I wrote as Darren Dash. Because I'm not touring much at the moment, it will be a while before I sign any copies of these for fans at signings or events. However, I did sign three proof copies on the last day of January, and these are the only copies of the book that I signed in the month of... View details ⇨
I hope this is how all of YOU behave if you walk into a bookshop and my books aren't on the shelves!!!! :-) :-) :-)
p.s. for anyone not in on the joke in this clip (and it IS a joke -- this lady is playing the role of a character in a book, and playing it very well indeed) you need to go read "Misery" by Stephen King to find out more about the brilliant Paul Sheldon, his series of novels, and... View details ⇨
