Rie Kaneto, the 2016 Olympic Champion in the women’s 200m breaststroke was awarded the Citizens Medal of Honor in Japan. The gold medalist was recognized by her Hiroshima Prefecture over the weekend as she was handed a bronze statue of honor from the region’s governor, Hidehiko Yuzaki.
The French Yannick Agnel, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist has officially announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 24.
Agnel has retired with two gold and one Olympic silver, two gold and a silver at the World long-course Championships, but in total he finishes his career with 16 golds, 4 silvers and 4 bronzes.
Katie Ledecky was named the Female Swimmer of the Year for the fourth straight year at the 2016 Golden Goggle awards. It is obvious to say that the award was well deserved considering her winner seasons this year.
