See Florida’s tallest Native American ceremonial mound at Letchworth-Love Mounds Archaeological State Park in Tallahassee! The mound is 46 feet high and was built between 1000 to 1800 years ago. Louise Maclay partnered with her husband, Alfred B. Maclay to design the amazing ornamental gardens of Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee. After Alfred’s death in 1944, Louise opened the 28-acre garden to the public and in 1953, she donated 307 acres of the property to the state.
Known for snorkeling and scuba diving, the headwaters at Fanning Springs State Park are the subject of this week’s Firsthand Florida Fun blog. Join Erika Z. on her latest adventure at this scenic Central-Florida park.

A new historic site was discovered in the woods of Bulow Creek State Park. Although this rusty item looks like trash, it tells a story of 1920's America. Can you guess what this is and what it was used for?
In 1942, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings published Cross Creek, an autobiographical account of her relationships with her neighbors and her beloved Florida hammocks. Her home and land at Cross Creek (near Hawthorne in North Central Florida) is now the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park and is a National Historic Landmark.
Santos Mountain Bike Trail is know for its pure off-road riding bliss. Santos is the largest mountain biking park in the Ocala, Florida area. It is part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. [ Floridastateparks.org Link ]
