For a positive example: This how pro muas do eye gags safely, a beautiful piece made by VVD Effects studio.

There's a silicone prosthetic on top, with a vacuform plate underneath that includes the fake eye (a really clever way to do it). The glass is plexiglass/acrylic/perspex (which ever name you prefer, but not real glass, not sharp, but still rigid).

The vacuform covers the real eye and...

In the interests of not being a total hypocritic I have done stupid, unsafe shit too. This was back in 2013. I made an eye cover out of silicone on a cotton pad, then stuck a wooden paint brush handle to it and covered it with more silicone. I thought it was safe because it was thick, but in reality if i had fallen face first the rigid wooden handle probably could have penetrated through the...

I've been seeing an alarming rate of very unsafe makeups popping up on social media this Halloween season and I can't stress this enough: Don't ever use real objects like sticks, scissors or glass as makeup props in or around your eyes. There's a very real chance you can injure yourself or even go blind. Covering your eyes in general will compromise your depth of field increasing the chances...

New video is live on my channel! This one is for the FX nerds who want to learn everything about everything (my people ❤). It goes over buying moulds for #halloween makeup vs buying pre made prosthetics, and talks in depth about the differences (and pros, cons) of encapsulated silicone appliances vs prosaide transfers.
Moulds are by Prosthetic Transfer Material and Stuart Bray

I've been filming lots lately! This is what I created today with my friend and pro mua Kate. I love how it turned out Kate painted the best rotting flesh colours inside the wounds. We used Prosthetic Transfer Material moulds filled with light flesh prosthetic transfer material, and painted with skin illustrator and bluebird inks. The eyes are 'shopped.

My first time applying a foam latex piece by myself. I had fun but man it took me a while
The prosthetics are by Scream Team, the teeth are Tinsley teeth, and the costume is Wholesale Halloween Costumes. I painted with pax and Skin Illustrator.

To make my Carl tutorial a little different, I wanted to also make him a walker! I used three Nimba Creations prosthetics, PPI Premiere Products Inc. skin illustrator to colour, and fleet st blood.

I'm editing now, but I am on day five of a cold, with blocked sinuses and am deaf in one ear, I also have no sense of taste or smell which is great. Hopefully the voice over isn't too bad D:
