Town halls and countless constituent meetings were a hallmark of my tenure in Congress. It's how I was able to serve the people of southern Arizona. I believed that listening to my constituents was the most basic and core tenet of the job I was hired to do.

I was shot on a Saturday morning. By Monday morning my offices were open to the public. Ron Barber - at my side that Saturday, who was...

Excited to be back in New Mexico today to join with local leaders to announce the New Mexico Coalition for Common Sense! It’s a new group of leaders from across the state - gun owners, veterans, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, ranchers, educators, physicians, domestic violence prevention advocates, and more - who are committed to making our communities safer from gun violence.

Happy Valentine’s Day to my husband and my best friend, Captain Mark Kelly!
It was great to be back on Capitol Hill yesterday with some of our nation’s finest law enforcement officers and my friends from Congress to help kick off a new national effort, the “Law Enforcement Coalition for Common Sense,” to urge our country’s elected leaders to reduce gun violence.

Captain Mark Kelly and I got to hang out with Mumbles the white rhino today at the Houston Zoo! Thanks for showing us around, Lee Ehmke!
22 years ago today, Eileen Collins became the first woman to pilot a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration spacecraft. Strong women get things done!
President Obama has worked tirelessly to stand up to the gun lobby and make our country safer from gun violence. The progress we have made under his leadership will keep guns out of dangerous hands and save lives.
So grateful for the incredible work Michelle Obama has done to encourage students to pursue higher education. #BetterMakeRoom
NJ just became a safer place to live thanks to a new responsible law that makes it harder for domestic abusers to get guns. This is a real victory for the kind of common sense and bipartisanship that our country needs a lot more of!
January is a time for new beginnings and new pledges. But it is also the time of year that I think most about the shooting that killed six of my constituents, injured 12 others, and put a bullet through my head.

While I still cannot make sense of this terrible tragedy, I can only hope that this horrible event was not merely random. That something positive can come from all of this so that no...

Today’s tragic shooting in Ft. Lauderdale is another painful reminder of our nation’s gun violence crisis. Captain Mark Kelly and I are incredibly grateful to the first responders who acted so bravely this afternoon to save lives and bring this tragedy to an end. We mourn for those taken today, and pray for those who were injured.

We wish we could say we lived in a country where people could...

Five dead, eight injured at Fort Lauderdale airport
Excited to be back on Capitol Hill today to meet with lawmakers and discuss how we can reduce gun violence and make our communities safer in 2017.
10 years ago, I was sworn into Congress for the first time. Being Southern Arizona’s voice in Washington was the greatest honor of my life. I’m excited to be back on Capitol Hill today to welcome the 115th Congress and see some of my friends and former colleagues!
Wishing you all a healthy and happy new year!
Four years ago, America's heart broke when 20 children and six educators were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary.

We carry the pain of the Newtown families with us. We meet the reminder of their loss with a promise to stand together. And we honor their spirit by committing to make our communities safer.

My heart is with the Newtown community today.
John Glenn was a real explorer with real guts. My brother NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly and I had the fortune of getting to know John as he trained for his final mission at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. For a pair of young astronauts like us, showing up to work next to John Glenn was like a rookie playing baseball alongside Babe Ruth or a kid getting music lessons while Mozart composed in the...
