MELBOURNE : POLICE are hunting a gang of dozens of Sudanese youths who stole phones, wallets and bags in a Moomba-style rampage through a family festival on Saturday night.

The brazen group gathered at the Summersault Festival at Caroline Springs almost two hours before fireworks started, then punched and kicked their way through, stealing personal belongings about 10pm.

The RSPCA Queensland has urged people to keep their pets cool during the extreme heat, after a dog died while tied to a clothesline yesterday.

The dog was tied up without access to water or shade in a Hervey Bay backyard, RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said.

“It was tied to a clothes line and left without water. It died at 10am,” he said.
