I opened up for Whitecross years ago in the band Armor. They sounded a lot like Ratt. The guitarist was amazing!

I love Metallica.. I really do.. but what is up with the RIDICULOUS amount of posts about them? Yes they had a few masterpieces but Kirk is not THAT great of a guitarist.. especially for someone to have studied under Satch himself.. look at Steve Vai and others who got the chance to study under Satriani.. Most of his solos can be played by a 1 year guitar student. Why not post more on Yngwie, Van Halen, Kiko, Nuno, even Synyster or anybody with some melodic taste.
03/24/2017 at 18:58
The best thing that could happen to Kirk's playing...is a super rythm guitarist (Hetfield) and Bob Rock.

How turning on your amp makes you play louder! "One day, a light bulb turned on and i had the urge to flick my amp switch to on" Kirk Hammett of Metallica says

Trivium's version of Master of Puppets is legit and if you haven't heard Kiuas' cover of Pantera's This Love...Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

FFDP's cover of "Bad Company" and Disturbed's cover of "Land of Confusion" are far better than anything on this list. (Yes, I know that's just my opinion)

Is Metallica's cover of Diamond Head's Am I Evil? on the list? It should be if not.

The guy did not tune correctly. Playing this riff in 440 is not cool man... ;)
Also, if he had learned to use his thumb on the E string, his A string would not buzz and mess the "bass" line so much.
Nice try though.
03/24/2017 at 16:34
This was a nice lesson though I found that when he added the "uh" behind every syllable, it kind of threw me a bit. You know-uh?

Gene is actually a good bassist and gets bashed because of his lack of input during the 80's. Listen to "Alive" or "Carnival of Souls"...Even the last two studio albums include some tasty fills and above average rock bass playing.
03/24/2017 at 17:16
As much as I don't like Gene Simmons, he's totally playing dumb here. I don't know how anyone could watch this and not see that. He's playing along because he obviously knows how to play. And as much as I respect miss Kaye, she's got a bit of an ego as well. After decades of people telling you how great you are, it's bound to bloat your self perception.

i'm a sound guy's dream - simple rig that sounds good, and i know how to soundcheck. once in a while, i get a sound guy who's like... PRE-grumpy, and they always look deflated when it turns out they have nothing to bitch at me about :) ...most sound techs aren't grumpy dicks though
yesterday at 13:57
The very worst soundmen are the ones that are crap drummers that buy a PA and do mixing. They cannot get the understanding that mixing and combatting feedback is about turning things down and not continually keep turning the monitors up so they are louder than the PA. Trying to balance everything to the great Bass Drum sound which they set in stone then wondering why the vocals aren't cutting through..
03/24/2017 at 16:22
Having done live sound for 7 years, I can tell you that it is best to treat the sound man as an equal. You start throwing that primadonna crap and you basically give the sound engineer permission to give you the most horrid sound, maybe even a few crappy mixes in the monitors as well. Thankfully, most band I had worked with knew better

Jimmy Page at the infancy of his ascendance to one of rock's premier guitarists. (Yes I know they are all lip-synching this one). I saw him in Toronto with Led Zeppelin at The Rock Pile in (I think) 1970-ish, maybe 1969. He was on fire then. He was electrifying. I know I had certainly never seen anything like that in my young life. Led Zeppelin changed the rock landscape overnight. It was a new world after they hit the scene. He's still one of my favourites.
03/24/2017 at 17:32
Much respect for the Yardbirds. They were a launchpad for at least three incredible careers. Keith Relf was an anchor for them. Just not the greatest vocalist. Awkward on stage. Of course that's just my opinion.
03/24/2017 at 13:42
Interesting having Page mime over a Beck yardbirds tune. But it works because other than the odd riff of song it's hard to tell Page from Beck here--no real Beckisms on guitar, the distinctive licks in solo. Beck plays rather straight solo here following line of riff.

Her voice and her dexterity on the guitar, Excellence. She wasn't just holding the guitar and strumming a few chords here and there, she is a PLAYER!!!!

Wow, she was great. Ashamed to say I'd never heard of her before. Great voice 👌

Both but she strums up for the lighter touch cause she uses a thumbpick . Cool huh!

If you're a musician and depressed.... you're doing it wrong.
Music ha NEVER made me depressed.
But it has helped me climb out of depression and sadness time and again over the last 56 years I've been playing. I'm 62 now.
Music has been my refuge and my sanctuary from a lot of bad situations (some self inflicted, I admit).
You may not like my answer, but there it is.
03/24/2017 at 03:53
No shit. I think it's more like most depressed/anxious people feel the need to express their feelings to others as opposed to people of sound mind
03/24/2017 at 05:15
well yeah. "Will I make it?" "Am I any good?" "Why did I give up trying to make it?" "Why did I think I could make it" "Ive made it .. now what? I'm still the same person.. " True and true... All of it.

Being in a band with only three people solves a bunch of those problems. Of course that's not always an option. I'm in 2 bands. One is just 3 people, one with 7 or 8 depending on who's available. There's a lot more drama in the larger band.
03/24/2017 at 13:51
This isn't a bad list, the thing is that there's more than one way to play every guitar piece. If you were SUPER freaking lazy you could use a capo to make several of these way easier, but just changing up the bar chords or tuning would make a few of them easier. Obviously this doesn't apply to all.
