North Shore businessman Paul Redman knows all about how getting fit is good for your heart.

Redman had a "hell of a confidence shock" 10 years ago when he had a heart attack while out for his morning cycle.

Aged 53 at the time, he thought his military background had kept him fit, although he had put on a bit of weight and was going through a lot of stress at the time.

New lease of life for double heart attack survivor

When Rotorua bus driver Tony Karaka woke one morning with a tight chest and short of breath, it never occurred to him he could be having a heart attack. At just 42, he considered himself way too young.

But he was and he is now appealing to Kiwis to pay more attention to their health.
