I certainly won't suggest this doesn't happen. But in 30 years in the software business, I don't recall it ever happening in any meeting I was in. Wonder if it is something to do with the specific industry. Although while working for a major agency, I got so tired of bad meetings and I put together and ran training in how to hold a meeting, including assigning a minutes taker, ahead of time.

I used to be the only female engineer at a consulting company. When it was Secretaries' Day and every other woman in the office was having lunch bought for them, I was told to act as receptionist. I was very very bad at it.

They have introduced this as a trial where I work. Only babies 6 weeks to 6 months old can participate. It has been working very well for everyone involved; the parent, the baby and the coworkers.

Great article. I think this is more about demonstrating that all options should be on the table.
It shouldn't just be a given that if a woman/couple (heterosexual or same sex) is having a baby then the woman who is pregnant/gave birth has to be at home looking after the baby.
This is a construct that society has created but there are many different options.

Small office with one baby? No problem. Large office with 5, 10, 15+ babies? Yeah... No distraction there. Real parental leave is needed. Flexible career paths for all employees to pursue their passions (whether or not it involves procreation) is needed.

I strongly believe that maternity leave should be able to be split between the parents if they so choose. Why should Mum be forced to take leave and miss out on career time? Dad should have the choice to take the time off so Mum an work. It would allow for same sex parents to get the time off as well.
