Day 1 of the Extreme Heatwave hits the Capricornia today with temperatures into the high 30's / low 40's (up to 10ºc above average). Central and Southern Inland also bake today while SEQ is warm and muggy after this mornings cool change surpassing heating.

Well the cool change is currently situated at Caboolture and still moving North slowly. Despite it moving through Brisbane, it's made little difference to the temperature which is still sitting in the mid 20s.

For those still suffering under very warm and muggy conditions, the change is coming... slowly lol.

The cool change is currently just North of Coffs Harbour, with forecast models indicating it'll reach the QLD/NSW Border around 2am and Brisbane by sunrise. Isolated to scattered light showers are occurring behind it, with strong winds occurring also.

4:25pm NSW UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms are spread across North-West, Northern Inland and Central Inland NSW. These storms are producing damaging to destructive winds with a 130km/h gust recorded at Mudgee along with localised heavy rain and frequent lightning. Most activity is tracking North to North-East.

Very warm conditions over SEQ are making for a muggy afternoon, however it's slightly hotter in NENSW.

Grafton 40
Casino 39
Gatton, Lismore 37
Brisbane, Beaudesert, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba around 35

Humidity is making it feel around 1-3c hotter.

It's a fraction hot in Western Sydney still.

Richmond has climbed to 44.4c before the change dropped it back to 37, Badgerys Creek 44.4 also before dropping back to 35. Camden maxed at 44.6 and Penrith who hasn't received the change yet is on a sizzling 45.1c!

Sydney, the strong Southerly is coming!

After a record breaking hot night of 28.0c, Sydney is up to 36.6c at 9am with the Airport at 37.4 and Western Suburbs (Richmond) sitting on 38.0c.

The strong Southerly is now at Helensburgh and about to hit South Sydney. Temperature drops of 5-10c in a matter of minutes have been observed on the Illawarra Coast with gusts of up to 70km/h...

Tropical moisture is forecast to be fed into a very warm to hot environment over Northern and Western parts of the State today triggering isolated to scattered storms, with the addition of rain areas over the North. There is a slight chance the odd cell could become severe (orange circle). While in SEQ due to very strong heating there is the chance 1 or 2 storms could form over inland regions...

Hot conditions are likely to bake Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, NENSW and the remaining Northern half of the State today. A cool change is moving up the Coast and should bring relief to areas South of Newcastle later today.

Today is expected to be a scorcher across, NENSW, SEQ, Southern QLD and Central QLD marking the start of another Extreme Heatwave.

Temperatures are likely to reach the mid 30s with humidity along the Coast, high 30s and low 40s across inland parts of SEQ/NENSW and Southern/Central districts with humidity playing a role also.

Yes you're reading this right... at 6:30am in the morning its 32ºc in Sydney, 34ºc at the Harbour (who maxed at 27ºc all day yesterday) and 35ºc in the Western Suburbs.

This comes after Sydney endured its HOTTEST night on RECORD. 28.0ºc minimum which breaks the February 2011 record of 27.6ºc.

Its going to absolutely SCORCH today!
