Hoodoo Gurus
12/01/2016 at 04:06. Facebook
2017 is shaping up to be a busy year for the Gurus with lots of gigs on our schedule already. Speaking of which, check out this stellar line-up: HOODOO GURUS, YOU AM I, RATCAT, STEVE KILBEY, GANGAJANG & THE ALLNITERS! That's the incredible day and night of music being offered by THE GRAPE ESCAPE on SAT. 29 APRIL at HOPE ESTATE in the Hunter Valley.

Tickets can be found here right now (you...

Yes, HOODOO GURUS are playing next Sunday (6 NOV.) for FREE, outside the Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach. The concert is to raise awareness for the SAVE BONDI PAVILION campaign. The Waverley Council intends to turn the first floor of the pavilion into an exclusive restaurant, which will be a licence to print money for someone yet to be revealed (though I suspect that vendor is...

Ballandean Winery is the location for our final gig of the year, Stanthorpe Rocks. We play on SAT. 12 NOVEMBER, along with THE BLACK SORROWS and SPY VS. SPY, among many others.

It's an all-weekend event, with camping facilities available, but you can also purchase a...

Someone took these photo's of our encore last Friday night. Paul Gallen, captain of the Cronulla Sharks, the 2016 NRL Premiers (it feels good to write that), got up on stage with us with the trophy while we sang a rocking' version of 'Up, Up Cronulla', the club's theme song. We did three verses (well, the same verse sung twice, with an instrumental verse in the middle) and I...

Well, it's been a week now since the Sharks won their first rugby league premiership trophy. I was at the stadium to witness the event in person and afterwards I made a beeline for the Cronulla Leagues Club to continue the celebration. Congratulations to the club's many devoted supporters and, more importantly, to the players and staff of the Sharks Rugby League Club. You did yourselves and...

We have another couple of shows coming up soon.

On Friday 14 October we are playing at the Cronulla Leagues Club and this will be the last concert to be held in the old auditorium. This summer the entire building will be demolished, to be replaced by a brand new facility by the end of next year. The Hoodoo Gurus have a long history with this club and this stage - we've played there a few...

We announced this show in the depths of winter. Spring is here and we're playing at the Sandstone Rocks festival this Saturday (Sept. 10) on Bribie Island. Tickets available here: [ Ticketmaster.com.au Link ]
This is a great i94Bar interview with the lead singer of one of our favourite bands, The Fleshtones. Peter Zaremba says a couple of kind words about the Gurus as well as mentioning that Brad sings a harmony on one of the songs on their new album, 'The Band Drinks For Free'. It's a great album, by the way.

Our shout! Why The Fleshtones and Peter Zaremba still drink for free after all these years... | Interviews

I didn't realise that my post on Saturday about Linda Franklin would coincide with the beginning of Donate Life Week. Unfortunately Linda had to wait years to receive her lung transplant but, who knows, if she had been able to get one sooner there may have been a happier outcome in her case.

There are many, many people just like Linda, just hanging on by a thread for years. I think it's...

We were sad to hear about the recent death of passionate Gurus fan Linda Franklin (born Riley). This photo was taken a few years ago, at the soundcheck for our Dig It Up! show at the Astor Theatre in Perth. As you can see, Linda was suffering from a serious respiratory ailment which ultimately took her life - she passed away only two days after receiving a lung transplant, something Linda had...

Our good friend, Russell Cheek, has a one-man show starting next week at Newtown's Old 505 Theatre. You might remember Russell from our silly web series 'Must Travel On Wheels' in which he played played Chance, our “life coach”. A harmless bit of fun and tomfoolery, like most of our videos. Russell's theatre show is called 'Who Am I...?' and in it he recounts his experiences when he was a...

Old 505 Theatre > Who Am I…?

Well here's something a little different: a gig announcement.

Yes, we'll be playing this mini-festival at The Sandstone Point Hotel at beautiful Bribe Island this September, which isn't far away now (I'm shocked to realise).

Get your tickets here: [ Ticketmaster.com.au Link ]

I wish i could go there now. It's been freezing in Sydney.
Don't forget the Save The Bondi Pavilion free concert this arvo, between 1PM - 4PM, upstairs in The Seagull Room (just one more part of the Pavilion that will disappear if the Mayor gets her way). I'll be performing after 3PM. Come early, stay late, have your say.

Btw, I'd like to give a shout out to Liberal Councillor Joy Clayton. A true Bondi local, Joy broke ranks with her party colleagues...

Three Bondi pavilion options ‘never seen’

Sad to hear the news of Bernie Worrell's death today. He was a co-founder with George Clinton of one of the greatest groups of all time, Parliament-Funkadelic. Bernie later performed with Talking Heads and can be seen in their 'Stop Making Sense' movie.

The Moog bassline in 'Flashlight' was Worrell's, still one of my favourite Parliament jams. An absolutely brilliant musician.

I've been involved for a while in the campaign to save the Bondi Pavilion. The community is up in arms about a radical, expensive re-design that will turn the well-loved community centre into another shopping precinct (think Darling Harbour). Come down to the concert this Sunday afternoon and meet some of the people who are trying to fight this virtual theft of a public asset. Oh, and they...

Hi, Brad and I will be playing a few songs tonight as part of the Spencer P. Jones benefit at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville. I hope you can come down to support this worthy cause.

We originally wanted to have the whole band perform however Mark Kingsmill is not well and our previous fill-in drummer, Nik Reith, is overseas with Radio Birdman. Rather than cancel completely, Brad and I...

The National Gallery of Victoria have invited me to perform as part of their winter program, Unplugged Live. I get up and sing a few songs, answer a few questions from an interviewer who also chats to a visual artist about their work. It'll be informative, entertaining and free! Well, the third part is guaranteed, the first two we'll be doing our best on the day. It all happens at 2PM on...

Some of you may be aware that I've taken up music journalism, rather late in life. After being on the receiving end of music criticism during my career, some of it very flattering, some very unflattering, I decided to try doing it myself.

That opportunity was given to me by The Saturday Paper two...
