A big part of being home during this album writing period has been connecting with nature, family and friends. Cutting out the noise, and getting back to the source. Judging others less, doing more of what I love, while trying to help others along the way. That's my goal.
So here's 'Aloes and Reeds (Part 1)', a little river jam I wrote while in this headspace.

'Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form.'

Me: We should get to work now.
Also me: but this jetty is so comfy. 10 more minutes.
Big day ahead. Much to do. Much to see. But first, coffee! ☕
Here's to all the midnight warriors. Those of you who work every free night and every weekend on your dreams. Those of you holding down a regular job, raising young families, and still chasing down your calling at the same time. Those of you, through fatigue, rejection, setbacks, and heartbreaks, still pick up your paint brushes or instruments or fire up your word documents or wade through...

This is where I'll be spending most of my weekend with friends and family in tow, I rate. For those fortunate enough to not work on Saturday and Sunday, what's your plan for the weekend?

I found this little old boat whilst clearing bush around Rivershell. It was buried deep beneath the mud and reeds. No one has lived here for more than 10 years. In that time there have been a number of floods that have swept through and buried many a thing along its banks. It's completely overgrown and wild here. We're making home here. ✨
If music and photography are two legs in my artistic tripod, drawing is undoubtedly the third. Been so rewarding getting to zone out, pen in hand, taking the first steps of turning a dream into a physical reality...

'The juxtaposition between fishing and touring couldn't be greater.' - Dean Ween

I like this idea that our lives aren't defined by what we do professionally. That there is a world where we can meet people and not ask them 'what do you do?' as an anchor for understanding who they are, for that is surely incomplete information.

Nevertheless, here I am on a fishing expedition, a far cry from...

'Maya, come pose quick for this photo with me'

I'm back at our river property for prep a week ahead of a huge celebration of music we're having here. Maya's come with to keep me company and help me build. I'll tell you more about this place and what I'm doing here during the week, but for now, just enjoy how chuffed Maya is with her contribution.
Absolutely astounding feat by big wave charger Chris Bertish. 93 days at sea! What!! He literally paddled across the Atlantic! South Africa represent! Setting records, doing what he loves, and supporting fantastic causes along the way. What a trooper.

Have a look at this livestream which captures his first meal on land and some lucid thoughts about what's important in life.

Maya has quickly become one of my favourite adventure buddies.
May you never think yourself too old to make time for play.

For all the people that don't give a damn about the environment and their impact on the world around them, there are people like these guys casually executing ideas like this to reverse the damage done. Mind blowing. Human ingenuity is something to behold. Watch and share.

With more time spent in the water than on land, and even more time spent laughing our asses off, this weekend was one for the books and a birthday I'll never forget. Shout out to all the brothers who made it so - legends! ☀
Two hands up for the homies!
