Making progress in the battle against addiction takes everyone pulling together. Ohio is spending $1 billion a year on the fight and in my State of the State speech I called for another $20 million for cutting edge research into prevention and treatment. The Third Frontier Commission approved that research effort today and I applaud their leadership in doing their part in this essential effort.
Enjoyed talking with Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove on Friday about what the future holds in healthcare. The next new big frontier is the brain which holds great promise in helping us tackle drug addiction, Alzheimer's and autism. More research in this area will lead to promising new innovations.
While many states have fallen behind on infrastructure improvements, we have invested in 7,000 projects since 2011 – without raising the gas tax – including the replacement and demolition of the Ironton-Russell Bridge.
