At the age of 16, kids are still treated as kids. They cannot serve their country, buy cigarettes or buy lottery tickets. YET, somehow, no matter how minor the crime, kids can be treated as adults and tried in the adult criminal justice system.
I’m humbled and inspired by today’s conversations with criminal justice advocates and formerly incarcerated individuals in New Orleans. Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the world, but the efforts here in New Orleans give me hope that together we can end #massincarceration
