Not Lynynrd Skynyrd, sorry. It's Gary Rossimgton (love him), Johnny Van Zant (very good in his own right but not Ronnie by far), Ricke Medlocke (Black Foot incredible), then folks that moved around from one hand to the other; like the colt guy from the Black Crowes, etc....I say again, Not Lynyrd Skynyrd.
01/19/2017 at 02:52
Yep, I was on that cruise and the next one and the one after that. Then I got to meet Billy Powell in Miami airport and talk with him and took his picture two weeks before he passed.

I've always said, with respect to Lynyrd Skynyrd, this is by far the best cover of a song any musician or band has ever done. It truly rivals the original. There may never be another cover of any song that compares to it's greatness.
I've always felt that this is what any cover should be like; respectful of the original, but unique to the band doing the cover.
When I first heard Shinedown's version, the first thought that went through my mind was that while they were recording it, Ronnie was looking down on them, tipping his hat and saying "Well done".
The original still has the most power and soul. It will always be the best version

They made Fod jealous...they were that good...so we're the ABB...it'll happen everytime.
I was too young to ever see them even though they came to the auditorium in Columbus, Ga but loved them from the first time I heard them !!!

Chris Kelaher, another gem. Well I think it's lip-synch because there's a big horn section and no horns and it looks like Ron he misses it a little bit it's still awesome. I love his Billy Idol sneer on some of the lyrics. And there's a rare appearance by Ed King.

Very cool vid of the early band. I noticed all the amps, Ampeg, Fender. This is before the Peavey gear that they must have had a deal with. Great video!!

Blackberry Smoke are as fresh and exciting as Skynyrd were in those early days. Very excited to see them for my third time in Bristol UK on 6 April!

Nicely done! That's my very favorite Skynyrd song! I can still relate to it today! MCA made a damn good $9000 investment! Took advantage of the band......

My 18 year old son passed away in May 2016. This was his favorite song. We played this at his funeral and it is on his headstone. Maybe Ronnie and Benjmain are rocking out on his birthday.

One of my all time favorites my son got married last year him and my daughter in law had to pick out songs for the first dances when it came time for the mother son dance I suggested Simple Man after my son and daughter in law listened to it my son turned to me and said this is the song for our dance. Happy Birthday Ronnie, the band lost its Voice when you left us! Wish you had a better "Manager," to get a better (not, antique) Airplane, for you, and the band, to fly on! That plane should have never flown, in the condition it was in! Period!!

Happy Birthday Ronnie, sure be interesting to see how your song writing perspective would be today. "All I can do is write it in a song " is a favorite of mine . as a former musician you are sadly missed.

Something special about January 15th. God saw fit to give the world both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ronnie Van Zant on this special day. I miss them both. They left the world a better place for having lived in it.

Loved the answer about them wearing wigs. Loved what they said about taking out their own trash, and cutting their own grass. Just shows how much they truly relate to their fans. ROCK ON LYNYRD SKYNYRD.

9 years old. My dad's Harmony guitar he bought to learn, but got discouraged. Took 3 lessons at Gilstrap's in Farmington, IL. Used Melbay books and taught myself along with dad's cousin on his 56 Telecaster. Still have the old Harmony.. 1960 & need to have the neck redone, but still salvageable. God been so long ago.

Hey Lynyrd Skynyrd, I'd like to say thanks so much for recognizing this artist and giving him props instead of shooting him down for copyright like so many other artists are doing. First class! You realize that he is helping you.
01/12/2017 at 16:53
No disrespect to anyone, but is SWA the only Skynyrd song you folks know about? The radio stations "margaritavilled" that song to death years ago. The band has hundreds of great songs. I'd love to hear you discuss some of those too. Thanks!
