"We met at a Mencap party. I love music and DJ-ing so was helping set up the music for the party when I spotted Helen across the room. She was out having a good time, dancing with her friends. Attracted by her eyes, I made the first move; I bought her a drink and asked her to dance.

At the end of the night we swapped numbers, then the next morning I got her a bunch of flowers. And the rest,...

"The advice I'd give to someone with a learning disability who's looking to start dating is take it slow, get to know the person you're seeing, find out their likes and dislikes and what you both enjoy. You don't need to rush into anything.

I'd also say, don't try and hide your disability, just be who you are."

Everyone has the right to find love.

"Relationships are important to me, it's part of who I am; I love people to pieces. I like knowing that there is someone out there who can fulfil that little gap in my life and my heart.

I'm hoping that I will find somebody that can be the perfect guy for me. I would love to get married one day and I would love to have a kid."

"Caring for my son has in many ways taken over my life. Caring can sometimes be 24/7 and I’ve felt like, in some ways, I’ve forgotten how to be a wife to my husband.

We rarely get to go for meals as a couple and can sometimes feel isolated from society due to the attitudes of other parents to disability. But, we wouldn’t change anything about Rishi. He’s given me the priceless gift of...

"People with a learning disability are largely invisible in our media, and across popular culture. When they are included, there is still a shocking amount of lazy and negative stereotyping about what people with a learning disability are like, and are capable of.

This winter, we at Mencap have been trying to tackle that with our first public awareness campaign in years - Here I Am. We...
