I miss NASCAR Sunday so bad, I'm watching the 2011 Homestead Miami Speedway Race. #99 Carl Edwards vs "Smoke" #14 Tony Stewart for the Championship!! Don't tell me how it ends. It's a 5 1/2 hr race, and I'm only 33 mins in. with rain delays!

I've been to the last two Daytona 500s, looking to go again this year, but only if I can find good sitting. I like the front stretch.

I raised my kids on NASCAR. Rusty times Dale equals mark Martin. I can not see a young mind getting interested today with the drivers looking different every week.

If they gonna do this, I expect to see EVERY paint scheme that every active driver has ever raced. It bores me when they only do a partial article...
Diego Ruiz Sánchez
WEIRD STAT - Drivers with special paint schemes directly related to the sponsor of the race (Subway car in Subway race or Pepsi car in Pepsi race, you know) tend to win much more often than when that car's main sponsor is not related to the one in the race.
I'm just saying it's suspicious, I truly hope it's a coincidence.

Who cares! Nascar is awful anymore. Didn't really watch much last year, except when Gordon drove and even then didn't really pay attention...

I was excited until Carl left. :( I Know we have some good young ones in there but it's just not going to be the same. Not easy being old school.

I can hardly wait. I wish there was racing on all year round. I know that everyone needs down time but there should be some kind of racing on . I so have the need for speed!

Tire limits, plate-race tweaks among 2017 rules updates

The only thing I disagree with is once again the restricter plates being smaller. I don't like seeing cars going 215 into turn 1 at Michigan but only 185 into turn 1 at Talladega while drafting, drafting cars at a super speedway should be a lot faster
01/14/2017 at 21:02
So tired of rule changes with NASCAR. They can't go one race or one season without changing something. This is why their fan base has been dropping.
01/14/2017 at 20:39
Sounds like another snooze fest season this year limiting tires and smaller plates at degga and daytona ZZZZZZZZ i see nascar still doesnt get why the stands are turning to ghost towns......

I admire Carl for prioritizing his life right now with young children. Wanting to spend quality time with loved ones is something money can not buy and time can not give back. NASCAR is a demanding schedule and he has had an awesome career over the last twenty years. He has done well for himself....the track will miss him.
01/14/2017 at 17:33
I think Carl realized that in modern NASCAR, you can work your very hardest and have your team running like clockwork all season, but any unlucky break like a blown tire or a caution at the wrong time is now capable of derailing an entire season like never before.

He's getting out before NASCAR falls in the Gutter even further..... Jimmie, Dale Jr, & Matt will be right behind him(corrected)

I like Gaughan, hope he makes it in. He cracks me up with his attitude and sense of humor and he doesn't take himself too seriously and I love how much he just enjoys racing.
01/14/2017 at 15:49
Considering his car will be held together with duct tape, bubble gum, and spit, I wish him well, but I'll be surprised if he gets within 5 mph of qualifying speeds.
01/14/2017 at 15:35
Elliott Sadler will attempt to qualify in the #7 Golden Corral car as well and will have to race his way in since they don't have a Charter

I wonder if there will be half empty tracks all over the place like there was last year. When will NASCAR realize they need to return to their base?
01/14/2017 at 14:11
So you're all in tears because a driver retired. What, you think these guys are gona drive forever. With all the new young talent comin up just pick one. I personally have gone thru 4 drivers in their careers. When Harvick retires, i'll pick another one (got one in mind already). Got my tix for 2 M,ville, 2 Richmond, Charlotte in May, and Dalington. Cant wait till Daytona. Go Harvick.
01/14/2017 at 13:46
So looking forward to the season. I'm thinking that some of my favorites may retire this year so I'm feeling a little anxiety over that. I think I'm too wrapped up in one driver and should have favorites #1, #2, and #3 to follow.

Anyone remember this track from the NASCAR thunder days? Fun as all get out and you'd drift the car through nearly the whole first turn😂

I sold programs there. Not much money but got in the race free.

Still don't understand Carl leaving 1 year on his contract. Idk, strange to leave at your peak.
I know it's life, it would be interesting to see the other perspective had he raced the year out.
I'm a Kyle fan (18) saying this.
01/14/2017 at 01:13
I'm a Kyle fan and so glad it's not him leaving however I'm going to miss Carl he's always been so pleasant to watch no matter what happened he was always nice to all and never a negative word..I hope he enjoys his retirement from racing but I hope we'll see him occasionally race.. Good Luck Carl we'll miss you
01/14/2017 at 02:30
If ya wanna know what I think..I think someone in Carl's life might need him more than NASCAR needs him for the rest of theirs?..I hope I'm wrong and that he and his family are blessed for life..

I'm as bummed as the next about Carl's decision not to race. But I respect that decision. If you can't give 185 MPH your 100% undivided attention... Then it is time to step away, enjoy your family, do what you love while your young and healthy. Carl is a amazing driver, but let's not forget that he is a husband and a father. Who are we to judge? Not a quitter...just tough enough to step away from the drivers seat and not give a flying fig what anyone has to say about it. 100% still a Carl fan.
01/14/2017 at 01:12
He's not done yet. I think he's pulling a Mark Martin and saying he's retiring so he can switch teams with no hard feelings from JGR. Martin did that so he could go from long time team Roush Racing to go to Hendrick Motorsports. I bet he's eyeing a seat at Stewart/Haas possibly.........hey, it worked for Harvick.

Carl Edwards is one of the most respected Race Car Drivers. He is awesome on the race track. He has a family and he has been in a lot of wrecks. I don't blame him for wanting to take a break. Your neck and head can only take so much.

Here is a trivia question. Anyone worth their salt in NASCAR history knows the middle car is Lee Petty. I'm sure many also know the car to his inside is Johnny Beauchamp the runner up. But who is in the lap car on the outside? (Hint) He has been elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and was killed in a crash at Riverside.
Sandra Pendergrass Edwards
01/14/2017 at 00:34
Well NASCAR you can thank Carl Edwards for me not being in attendance fir the Daytona race... I'll still be in mourning.
01/14/2017 at 14:37
Lee Petty. Jonny Beauchamp. Joe Weatherly.. It took almost a week before they realized who it... But old man Lee Petty wouldn't denied

I would say no. Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick,
Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch will all get in before Carl does. they all got championships and the wins to go with them. that's 8 drivers. we race in a field of 43. that's 18.6% of the drivers that have raced in the last 3 years. Nascar only has 1-5 new drivers a year. are we going to let everyone in the hall?
01/13/2017 at 19:50
Other drivers have gotten in for less in my opinion. Based off of that, yes. But ultimately they need to stop with the 5 per year
01/13/2017 at 19:52
I don't see why not. What the hell Wendell Scott got in just because he was black. And only had 1 Cup win to his credit. So based on those credentials I don't see why anybody can't get in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Well, that should quiet the fans who believe Gibbs forced Carl to retire to replace him with Daniel Suarez. Joe Gibbs is a truthful man and would not lie to us. Older drivers who have been in NASCAR 20 years or so will also retire soon. Had a good career and need to take it a little easier and spend time with young children. Lots of young drivers coming up in the ranks.
01/14/2017 at 01:51
Or, for you tinfoil hat types, maybe Carl - who is almost 40 - watched what happened to Earnhardt Jr. this season and decided the risk wasn't worth the reward, considering how many other avenues were open to him?
If Carl had been forced from the seat by Arris and Carlos Slim, as so many "fans" assume, do you think Carl would roll over and let it happen? I highly doubt it.
01/13/2017 at 19:05
Gibbs over the years has been to busy pouring all his money and resources into K. Bush when Carl could have accomplished so much more if given the chance. Well I want be a fan of Gibbs team anymore, Carl was my favorite and such a gentleman.

As a Kenseth fan, I can agree with people talking about Matt retiring in regards to his age... I mean, it's coming much sooner than later.
But because of sponsorship and performance? No... Matt outruns guys half his age and even a few "bigger names", as some would argue, consistently.
01/13/2017 at 17:25
Good luck to Carl in the future. May he find as much joy in his next career as he did in racing. We are all surprised but decision is his and his alone. Curiosity and nosiness makes us want to speculate about something that is none of our business. Matt Kenseth you are my favorite driver. Go Pack Go. On Wisconsin.
01/14/2017 at 02:56
Funny, you all talk about Carl, but I remember seeing all kinds of drivers get angry and throw punches and throw little fits like children. It's racing they deal with it. Isn't it funny how fans can't.

Didn't Sadler get a 1-off deal for the Daytona 500 several years ago and wreck several cars coming through the tri-oval to complete LAP 1!? lol So perhaps having him in the race will make it entertaining for a little while. ;) Montoya hit a jet-dryer later in that race, but that's a whole other story. lol

I dont understand why people hate cup drivers racing in Xfinity. Theres no better way for an Xfinity driver to prove he belongs in the cup series than to race against cup drivers.
01/13/2017 at 15:02
OMG they're running a total of 4 races in the xfinity series its unfair for the regulars even though they all have similar equipment the world is going to end NASCAR is doomed. Give me a brake. Stop with the emotion and realize that the xfinity drivers have never said anything bad about racing with cup regulars.

Y'all should be more upset with Kyle Busch who ran and won in most of the races last year! So happy they are limiting races this year. It's 2 races each I bet Kyle races in all that he is allowed. SMH.

Carl Edwards you will be missed. I hope you have a wonderful life after NASCAR. My grandkids are going to miss those flips
01/14/2017 at 13:25
The real reason why he is leaving! Age has caught up to him and he's afraid he can't complete the back flip! LOL Nice to see him walk away because that's what he wants to do! No farewell tour, just going to ride off into the sun rise! Don't forget he did say stop driving full-time you will see him back in a car in the future!
