Bill C-262 provides a framework for the federal government to ensure that the laws of Canada are in harmony with the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission called for the adoption of the Declaration in its recommendations.
Last summer, Wapekeka First Nation wrote to Health Canada to ask for funding to help the community deal with mental health issues affecting young people there. Of specific concern was that a group might have entered into a suicide pact. That funding was denied.
