This exuberant bouquet by Hans Bollongier may look natural, but tulips, anemones, roses and carnations do not all bloom at the same time. Bollongier nevertheless managed to assemble a balanced composition.

We are proud to announce the finalists for the Rijksstudio Award 2017! Out of a total of 2,600 entries, the jury has selected ten highly creative and original designs to compete for the first prize on 21 April.

The Top 10 will be announced at the end of March. New this year is the public voting category, for which the Rijksmuseum will launch a dedicated voting page.

Pieter de Hooch werd in 1629 in Rotterdam geboren. In 1655 schreef hij zich als zelfstandig schilder in bij het schildersgilde van Delft. De Hooch specialiseerde zich in interieurs met mensen. Kenmerkend voor zijn werk zijn de vele doorkijkjes via vensters of gangetjes naar andere vertrekken.

As a world-famous graphic designer and artist, Dick Bruna reached the hearts of many generations all over the world with seemingly simple scenes of everyday life. His work will live on for years to come.

Breitner often took photographs to prepare his paintings, and several such studies are known for this work. The way in which the woman walks straight towards us and the image is cropped strikes one as distinctly photographic.
