“It was a lovely dog and an emotional reunion.’

Crewman Sam Wallis was part of the volunteer crew at Aberystwyth who launched both lifeboats to help find a dog who had fallen from the cliffs. Luckily the dog was quickly found, and reunited with its owner with only a small cut on its leg.

You’re heading home after a night out and spot a man lying on the ground drifting in and out of consciousness, what would you do?
Lifeguard Supervisor Arun Gray’s lifeguarding instinct kicked in when he saw a concerned crowd gathered around a man who had collapsed in a Skegness car park. Cool-headed Arun used his casualty care skills and kept the man in a stable condition until the paramedics...

Our lifeguards have started their 2-week induction at Camber Sands before they begin their first full summer season on the Sussex beach.

The fully-trained lifeguards will patrol the beach 7 days a week, starting on 27 May. Our patrols will be on over 240 beaches around the coast this summer – so choose a lifeguarded beach if you can.

As it’s National Volunteering Week in Ireland, what better time to share this lovely thank you letter from a kayaker rescued by Youghal Lifeboat. The kayaker had got into difficulty and was drifting offshore whilst suffering the effects of being in 9 °C water. When the volunteer crew got to him he was showing signs of hypothermia, and spent 3 days in hospital. After he’d recovered, he...

You’re either very lucky or very unlucky if you see views like these! This is what it's like INSIDE our lifeboats. You can see secure doors, engine rooms and survivors’ cabins. These are noisy, functional places, full of high-tech machinery, pipework and wiring, where our hard-working mechanics keep everything shipshape.
Our all-weather lifeboats are actually designed in-house by RNLI...

Cromer in North Norfolk is home to the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum , RNLI Cromer Lifeboat Station and RNLI lifeguards. It’s well known for its beautiful Victorian buildings and pier – and, during the 1970s and early 1980s, it was also home to this unique architectural curiosity: an igloo boathouse for Cromer’s inshore lifeboat. Frank Muirhead, ex crew member and museum supporter at Cromer, recalls...

Like the sea itself, the RNLI has been a source of inspiration for artists and makers since the early days of the organisation.
Many of our supporters and volunteers continue this tradition and we have asked a few of them to talk about their passion for art, craft and the RNLI. We’d love to see your own coastal or lifeboat-themed projects too. Share them with us using hashtag #GiveArtAGo. [...

Imagine giving up your time to find and rescue someone you’ve never met - that’s what the Porthcawl RNLI Lifeboat volunteers did when a kitesurfer got into difficulty. He found himself in the sea with his lines wrapped around his legs. This is what happened, through the eyes of a crew member…

Not all storm troopers are evil – our crews give up their time to rescue others, whatever the weather. And they can’t do it without the best lifeboats and equipment, funded by kind donations. That’s why you’re the force that’s with them on every shout - on May the fourth and every other day of the year.

Can you help us tell one of the most remarkable stories in our history? Seventy-seven years ago this month, our lifeboats took part in one of the biggest rescues of World War Two: Operation Dynamo at Dunkirk. The Ramsgate and Margate lifeboats went over with their own crews while another 17 lifeboats were requisitioned by the Navy.
Now, we’re looking for people we rescued or their...

Our volunteer crew members are prepared to brave anything, at any hour, to save lives at sea and not all the lives they save are of the human variety. This rescue by Baltimore Lifeboat Station was one with a difference as they were called to a white horse that had fallen off a cliff & become trapped on the small beach below.

Schoolgirl Danielle Marr dashed out of science class to go on her first 'shout' with Anstruther Lifeboat yesterday. Danielle, who has special permission from her school to go on the lifeboat, wasn't the only new crew member. Mum Louise Mcnicoll, on the right in this picture, was dropping her son at nursery when her pager went off for the first time. It's great to have them both on board!...
