We’ve been rummaging through the archives to find some of our quirkier objects… Anyone remember these? This puzzle features a Waveney Class Lifeboat, which served at Dover and Holyhead stations during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The puzzle itself dates from the 1980s, and was available in our shops.

The founder of the RNLI Sir William Hillary died on 5th January 1847, aged 76, the day after his birthday. In 1823 Sir William made an impassioned appeal to the nation, calling for a service dedicated to saving lives at sea, and in 1824 the RNLI was founded. The festive period was a busy time for our volunteers. Christmas Eve saw Hartlepool lifeboat crew evacuate an injured person from a cargo ship.
