Our volunteer crew members are prepared to brave anything, at any hour, to save lives at sea and not all the lives they save are of the human variety. This rescue by Baltimore Lifeboat Station was one with a difference as they were called to a white horse that had fallen off a cliff & become trapped on the small beach below.

Schoolgirl Danielle Marr dashed out of science class to go on her first 'shout' with Anstruther Lifeboat yesterday. Danielle, who has special permission from her school to go on the lifeboat, wasn't the only new crew member. Mum Louise Mcnicoll, on the right in this picture, was dropping her son at nursery when her pager went off for the first time. It's great to have them both on board!...

The RNLI has been saving lives at sea for nearly 200 years – beginning with one man’s commitment to saving lives around the coast to international flood rescue efforts and tackling the global drowning epidemic. Read about how we went from one man with a vision to an international lifesaver. [ Rnli.info Link ]

Our lifeboats can’t go to the rescue without powerful engines and the skills of volunteers like Holyhead Helm Sian Jones. But oars still have their uses!

This is Sian with her father celebrating her marriage to hubby Byron, with a guard of honour from her fellow lifesavers. The day went smoothly except for a lifeboat callout to some missing climbers. Luckily they were quickly found safe and...

Here's Cara the dalmation safely back on shore after a 100ft cliff fall. The St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat volunteers headed to Cara's aid after she got trapped at the bottom of cliffs. She had a slight leg injury but was able to leap out of the lifeboat when they reached the beach - and into the arms of her owners!

With the weekend just around the corner and it looking to be a sunny one across the UK and Ireland we thought it was about time our lovely lifeguards made an appearance too, so they will be starting their patrols again on some beaches from tomorrow.
If you are heading to the beach please say hello to them, swim between the red and yellow flags and don’t forget to respect the water. Find out...

Whale whale whale, guess who’s back?! Salcombe RNLI and Dart RNLI Lifeboat Station joined forces to help a humpback whale when she became trapped by a line of whelk pots, just 10 days after she had been released from the same predicament.

By training one volunteer we can save many lives. Every crew member completes a number of training modules every year to keep them safe and saving lives.
It costs £1569 to cover on-going annual training costs for a member of crew for 1 year. A donation from you today would help to pay for the training and equipment our crews need.. [ Rnli.info Link ]

We sometimes launch to more unusual incidents in the water, like last Thursday when Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station's all-weather lifeboat launched to a light aircraft that had crashed into the sea just 10 metres off Lancing beach in West Sussex. Amazingly the two people on board the plane had managed to escape and swim ashore, so the lifeboat returned to the station. The inshore lifeboat was...

Our lifesavers have been doing us proud again in 2016 – they helped over 30,000 people in trouble and spent over 228,869 hours at sea, going out in storms, fog and occasionally the sunshine which inevitably brings people to the coast.

While our crews and lifeguards will be on hand this year as they always are, we really encourage all of you to be prepared, take care and respect the water –...
