An impressive amount of lightning strikes through the last 48 hours over the Mediterranean sea where the large and almost stationary upper low is producing extreme Bora in Adriatic sea and record breaking snowfall in central Italy. Some complex convective system were over Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. Notice the cyclonically curved lightning lines!
Impressive rex blocking pattern continues over Europe tonight, with a big anticyclone parked over W-CNTRL-E Europe and the cutoff low persisting over the central Mediterranean. Note the zone of sharp pressure gradient over the Adriatic region, causing the intense, up to hurricane force Bora/Bura/Burja winds. The pattern is expected to persist for another two days, then decay gradually.
