We are looking for our next location to install a snow camera! We have had much debate, and have decided that Clarens in the Free State will be getting it! We now need our awesome community to help us find a location to install the camera. The ideal position should have a clear view south, towards the Maluti Mountains, and have Wi-Fi available (although not necessary). The position should be...

A few interesting stats from last year. The first and last snows are what we call 'measurable snow'. In other words, the snow settled and was able to be measured. There were flurries both before and after the dates mentioned, but the snow did not settle enough to be measured. The 31 days of snowfalls once again are "measurable falls" and do not include flurries that did not settle. Any...

Snow in the Sahara Desert less than a week ago! From NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration : Snow on the edge of the Sahara Desert in Africa is rare, yet on December 19, snow fell & was seen by our satellites: [ Go.nasa.gov Link ]
It looks like the cold front has made landfall in the Western Cape, bringing with it some much needed moisture to the area. We are still not expecting any snow, despite the colder weather. The front is moving fast, and should pass during the day tomorrow.
Looks like a nice little cold front is going to impact the South Western Cape on Friday(23rd December). Some rain is expected, and with the freezing level dropping down to 2000m overnight, we certainly can't rule out the possibility of some snow!! The front will also impact areas of the Eastern Cape early on Saturday morning, and once again, we can't rule out the possibility of some light snow...

We are not expecting any snow in the next 10 days. As always though, we will keep you updated if anything should change. Here is a lovely pic of Cathedral Peak Hotel today. The Drakesnberg Mountains are quite spectacular at this time of year :)
Great special available on tents at Cape Union Mart until the 4th of December, don't miss it! [ Capeunionmart.co.za Link ]
Believe it or not, we are seeing a possibility of a light dusting of snow on the southern KZN Drakensberg and into Lesotho for tomorrow (Friday) evening. No heavy snow falls are expected, and any falls are expected to be confined to the extreme high peaks.
Be sure to gear up with Cape Union Mart
