Suzanne Aubert, the founder of the Sisters of Compassion in New Zealand, has been declared "venerable", a milestone on the path to sainthood in the Catholic Church.

She had a lot to do with Māori in the 19th century and is said to have been an expert in te reo having developed a Māori-English dictionary which became a referecence text for decades.
