The early morning sky to the east is looking amazing at the moment! I shot this image looking along the Wellington South Coast in New Zealand around 5am on Friday morning as the moon and galactic centre of the Milky Way was rising.

Hope you like the image, and feel free to share!

Cheers

Castlepoint is a fantastic place in the Wairarapa on the SE coast of the North Island of New Zealand. There's a lighthouse there and a ton of natural beauty, including Castle Rock which towers over the beach and limestone reef below. At 162m high, the view from the top is breathtaking.

I did the climb up to the top of Castle Rock at night to take this photo of the Milky Way rising above the...

I thought it would be appropriate to post this today. I shot this in Wellington, New Zealand in April last year just after sunset. The sky had lit up with amazing colours, and then this heart shape cloud just formed right in from of me...no there isn't an ounce of photoshop trickery here - just nature at it's best! Oh and if you want to see the cloud forming and flying past, here's a rough...

This time-lapse is from a recent adventure to Cape Palliser on the SE cape of the North Island of New Zealand. I shot this on the 4-5 Feb 2017, and It’s the longest time-lapse I’ve ever shot with 13 hours of capture from just before sunset, to just after sunrise the next morning.

Once the sun sets, day turns to night and you can see the stars appear. Then...

SPACE SHIP

I shot this image (which is part of a timelapse) of this old abandoned fishing ship on the Wairarapa coast a few years ago. It's so amazing to be under a night sky like this, but I have to admit being beside an abandoned boat like this felt a little spooky at times...

Starry nights on the Wainuiomata Coast - Wellington, New Zealand

The Art of Night - The Photography of Mark Gee
It was one of those rare evenings in Wellington, New Zealand where the sky was perfectly clear, and there wasn't hardly a breath of wind. I headed out the the Wainuiomata coast to see what I could photograph and found this bridge which lined up in perfectly with the rising Milky Way just to the right of it. Not long after I had shot this photo, the wind began to pick up and it was time to pack...

It's been a while since I've been able to photograph the aurora like this, but I'm really excited as in March I'm boarding a plane with 150 other photographers and flying down toward the antarctic circle to photograph the aurora from the air!

This historic flight from Dunedin, New Zealand is totally booked out, but I do happen to have one spare ticket which I am auctioning off for the Variety...

There's a kind of magic in the air after the sun has gone down, but there is still that golden glow in the sky close to the horizon. And higher above the stars are begining to appear, signaling the end of day.

I shot this image on the south coast of Wellington, New Zealand,

Hope you like the image, and feel free to share.

There is something about the long twilights we get in New Zealand during summer, they seem to linger on for ages, and to see day beginning to turn to night with the first stars making an appearance is one of my favourite moments.

This image is a single frame from a time-lapse I shot on the Wellington South Coast in New Zealand the other day with the SYRP Genie motion control unit and a Canon...

I shot this 360 degree image from the Brooklyn Wind Turbine high above the city of Wellington, New Zealand - It's quite amazing what you can actually see in the night sky around New Zealand's capital city, and you may notice that the Milky Way is clearly visible just behind the wind turbine in the photo.

For those interested - this 360 image is made up of 56 individual images stitched...
