Well we have just had The Art of Night Astrophotography Workshop this past weekend as part of the NZ Travel Magazine Showcase in Wanaka New Zealand.

It was a pretty good turnout with 50 keen astrophotographers. After an hour of theory and post processing indoors, we ventured out to see what we could photograph. The skies started off totally clouded over, but eventually cleared to a beautiful...

Byron Bay Australia is a place close to my heart - I grew up not far from there so have spent a lot of time in the area. And when I was asked to speak at Star Stuff with Dr Karl - Byron Bay I jumped at the opportunity.

This star trail image was shot on the island of Menorca, Spain during the recent PhotoPills Camp. It was a perfectly clear and still night as you can see by the reflections in the water. This is also only the second star trail image I've ever shot, and they are great to do when the moon is too bright to photograph the Milky Way.

Who else has tried their hand at photographing star trails? Feel...

I've been in Menorca Spain for the past week for the PhotoPills Camp. It's been a crazy fun and amazing week where photographers from all around the world come to the Island of Menorca to learn from the masters of photography.

This shot is from one of the night shoots we did where we lit and spun steel wool to create this awesome spectacle at night over water. You can see the photographers...

The 3rd Annual A Night of Astrophotography with Mark Gee at the Red Rocks Reserve on the South Coast of Wellington, New Zealand had a great turnout despite of the cold conditions last night. 1200 people had registered for tickets for the event, and we had around 1000 actually turn up. A huge thanks for all of those who came. I certainly had a fantastic night and I hope you all did too!

New Zealand is blessed with dark night skies and little light pollution. Even within the cities the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye, and you don't have to travel far from them to find some of the darkest skies in the world where you can see the night sky in all of it's glory.

New Zealand - Under A Starry Sky is a collection of some of my most memorable time-lapse experiences under the...

I would say I’m quite lucky and get to go on some amazing trips with my photography, especially when I got the opportunity to fly down towards the Antarctic Circle to photograph the Aurora Australis on-board an Air New Zealand Boeing 767.

But this time I also wanted to give someone else that same opportunity - someone who is passionate about photography, but wouldn’t normally get the same...

Last night was a great night for auroras. I was busy trying to finish up editing on a film, but once I saw people posting real time aurora photos on Facebook, I quickly grabbed my gear and headed out the the south coast of Wellington, New Zealand.

I missed the most intense part of the night, but I was still happy with what I managed to get, especially from Wellington.

Hope you like the...

I shot this image back in 2012 and it’s still one of my favourite images - it a photo of The Gap at Castlepoint which is on the south east coast of the North Island of New Zealand just a few hours from from the capital city of Wellington. I photographed the image at 3am, so I simply called it '3am at the Gap’

Hope you like the image, and feel free to share!

There's something special about the time of night just before the day breaks. The stars are still shining, although you can see light on the horizon as daybreak approaches and night turns to day.

I shot this panorama from the Cape Palliser Lighthouse on the North Island of New Zealand back in January just before daybreak. It was an amazing night of photographing the stars, and I shot right up...
