There is something about the long twilights we get in New Zealand during summer, they seem to linger on for ages, and to see day beginning to turn to night with the first stars making an appearance is one of my favourite moments.

This image is a single frame from a time-lapse I shot on the Wellington South Coast in New Zealand the other day with the SYRP Genie motion control unit and a Canon...

I shot this 360 degree image from the Brooklyn Wind Turbine high above the city of Wellington, New Zealand - It's quite amazing what you can actually see in the night sky around New Zealand's capital city, and you may notice that the Milky Way is clearly visible just behind the wind turbine in the photo.

For those interested - this 360 image is made up of 56 individual images stitched...

I’ve been shooting a fair bit of new material lately, and I thought I’d share a night to day time-lapse I did the other night at the Cape Byron Lighthouse at Byron Bay in Australia. I started shooting the time-lapse at 3am and shot until just after sunrise at 6.30am.

For those interested in the tech side of it. It was shot on a Canon 6d, and the motion was controlled by two SYRP Genie Minis...

One of the things I love about astrophotography is you never know exactly what you may capture on any given night. You may be lucky enough to get a meteor streaking across frame, or even a sky full of intense air glow.

And last night was just one of those unexpected nights which I would rate right up there as one of my best nights of astrophotography...

I had a few people email me the other day after posting my 360 image shot from Point Halswell in Wellington, New Zealand, and they were asking what the objects were that they could see in the night sky, so I thought I'd make a video from the 360 and put some overlays on to point out some of the features of the night sky over Wellington.

Hope you like the video, and feel free to share!

It's quite amazing what you can actually see in the night sky from this location...and bare in mind this is a capital city, so the light pollution levels are relatively good compared to other capital...

My second 360 degree night photograph from Wellington, New Zealand, was taken at the Red Rocks Nature Reserve, Te Kopahau Reserve on the south coast. We are very lucky to live in a capital city where you can just drive 20 minutes from the city centre and able to see the Milky Way and thousands of stars with the naked eye.

You can go check out my image today on the Absolutely Positively...

The weather fined up beautifully here in Wellington, New Zealand this evening, and I wasn't even thinking about photographing the moon. But out the corner of my eye I noticed the 3.4% waxing crescent moon setting to the west so I ran to grab my camera and big lens and got this shot...next time I need to be prepared!

Hope you like the image and feel free to share.

The Milky Way above Kaikoura, New Zealand.

I've spent a bit of time along this incredible coastline and I was there just 3 weeks ago before things in the coastal town of Kaikoura changed forever.

At 12.02am on Monday, New Zealand was rocked by the 2nd largest earthquake ever recorded since it's European settlement. The quake had a magnitude 7.8 with it's epicentre 60km south west of the...

It's the full moon today and the closest the moon has been to earth in 68 years, so it will appear a little larger than usual and also known in the media as the supermoon. Unfortunately where I am in Wellington New Zealand, it's absolutely pouring rain with gale force winds, so I won't be able to photograph anything! But I thought I'd leave you with a fun little film I shot with some other...

The media hyped "Supermoon" will appear in our skies on this Tuesday in New Zealand (Monday in the US), and it's the closest the moon has been to Earth for 68 years. Even though it will only appear 14% larger than when the moon is furthest from Earth (apogee), it will still be a spectacular sight as it rises above the horizon.

If you are planning to photograph the full moon and want to know...

I’ve been working some new time-lapse material lately and this is my first time-lapse shot on the SYRP Slingshot which I shot in Wellington, New Zealand. The Slingshot is a cable cam rig capable of shooting up to 100m and I believe this is the first time a cable cam rig has been used to shoot a day to night astro time-lapse.

For the tech geeks out there, here's a few facts of the...
