On Thursday night I boarded an Air New Zealand Boeing 767 from Dunedin, New Zealand to travel down towards the Antarctic Circle to view the Aurora Australis. This was the first commercial flight to view the Aurora out of New Zealand, and I have to tell you it was an amazing experience! A huge thanks has to go to Ian Griffin for coming up with this idea in the first place and then going through...

Aboard #flighttothelights flying from Dunedin down towards Antarctica to see the Aurora australis
Today I'm embarking on a unique journey where I will be joining 150 other aurora hunters and photographers on a Air New Zealand Boeing 767 chartered plane, and flying from Dunedin in New Zealand south towards the Antarctic Circle. From 37,000 feet, we hope to photograph the rising Milky Way, and the Aurora Australis. I'm also going to be giving the world's first in-flight astrophotography...

Broken Head at Byron Bay in Australia is picturesque enough in the day time, but at night it becomes another world, especially when there is bioluminescence in the ocean. This particular evening I had set up to shoot a time-lapse, but the wind was quite strong and caked my lens in salt spray. So instead I cleaned my lens off and decided to do a bioluminescence selfie. I clicked the shutter and...

Last night around 9pm, the International Space Station was flying high above Wellington, New Zealand, and since it was such a beautiful night, I thought I'd get out there and capture the flight path.

For the tech specs, this image was captured with a Canon 6d and a 24mm lens. 30 second shutter @ f/9 ISO 500. I took seperate 6 exposures to capture the complete length of the ISS flight...

I love this shot of this little girl in Rwanda checking out my photo of the Church of the Good Shepherd from Tekapo, New Zealand. She is one of around 70 in a facility which houses girls who were saved from sexual abuse. They provide food, shelter, psychological rehabilitation and are currently raising money to start a medical clinic.

I’m a affiliate at WorldPix, and they were at the facility...

Blue Lake in the in the Tasman Valley of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, was originally named that due to it's intense blue colour. Unfortunately these days, the lake is more green than blue with brown algae growing on it's surface. Nevertheless, it is still a stunning place to visit especially at night.

Hope you like the image, and feel free to share!

It's the day after the new moon, so it's a 3.7% waxing crescent moon this evening. This is how it looked setting next to the Brooklyn Wind Turbine in Wellington, New Zealand tonight.

The early morning sky to the east is looking amazing at the moment! I shot this image looking along the Wellington South Coast in New Zealand around 5am on Friday morning as the moon and galactic centre of the Milky Way was rising.

Hope you like the image, and feel free to share!

Castlepoint is a fantastic place in the Wairarapa on the SE coast of the North Island of New Zealand. There's a lighthouse there and a ton of natural beauty, including Castle Rock which towers over the beach and limestone reef below. At 162m high, the view from the top is breathtaking.

I did the climb up to the top of Castle Rock at night to take this photo of the Milky Way rising above the...

I thought it would be appropriate to post this today. I shot this in Wellington, New Zealand in April last year just after sunset. The sky had lit up with amazing colours, and then this heart shape cloud just formed right in from of me...no there isn't an ounce of photoshop trickery here - just nature at it's best! Oh and if you want to see the cloud forming and flying past, here's a rough...

This time-lapse is from a recent adventure to Cape Palliser on the SE cape of the North Island of New Zealand. I shot this on the 4-5 Feb 2017, and It’s the longest time-lapse I’ve ever shot with 13 hours of capture from just before sunset, to just after sunrise the next morning.

Once the sun sets, day turns to night and you can see the stars appear. Then...

SPACE SHIP

I shot this image (which is part of a timelapse) of this old abandoned fishing ship on the Wairarapa coast a few years ago. It's so amazing to be under a night sky like this, but I have to admit being beside an abandoned boat like this felt a little spooky at times...
