After two days of rehearsals The Who finally made their debut on stage in the USA opening a set of shows at the RKO Theater on 58th Street, New York City billed as 'Music In The Fifth Dimension' hosted by top New York DJ Murray the K. In reality it was no more than a variety shows of stars that ran five times per day for nine days in the 1,500 seater theatre....

50 YEARS OF THE WHO
24 March 1967. Not so much Who news today but an interesting tale about one of Pete's early compositions, a somewhat cruel satyrical ditty called 'Lazy Fat People' which was released as a Columbia Records single on this day by British comedy group The Barron Knights. Pete never offered this song to The Who but he did offer it first to Episode Six, a group who were the...

23 March 1967. The Who were on their third day in New York and started rehearsals for their first gig the coming Saturday. "We worked hard on our propaganda for the first three days before we...

50 YEARS OF THE WHO
21 March 1967. The Who set off from Heathrow airport at 4 o'clock in the afternoon aboard flight TW701 on their way to New York. On arrival in Manhattan they checked in to the Drake Hotel at Park Avenue and 56th Street. The following day, in horror Chris Stamp moved them to the Gotham on 55th Street after he saw Keith and John's room service tab at the Drake.

Who fan Barry Krumm has sent us some interesting footage of the band playing at Madison Square Garden on Thursday 11 March 1976. Sadly the clip doesn't have any sound but nevertheless it's interesting to see The Who from 41 years ago. This was just two days after Keith Moon had collapsed onstage at Boston Garden, Boston on March 9 due to (official diagnosis) 'flu but more likely a mixture of...
