50 YEARS OF THE WHO
24 May 1967. The Who were back at De Lane Lea studios on this day in 1967 to record a different version of Eddie Cochran and Jerry Capehart's 'Summertime Blues'. This as yet unreleased version is a much faster version than the other studio recording made in October 67 for the BBC and released on 1998's reissue of Odds & Sods. It was thought that 'Summertime Blues' might...

50 YEARS OF THE WHO
23 May 1967. John's broken finger was causing him a lot of pain and so a recording session at City of London Studios meant that The Who could only put down backing tracks to John's composition 'Someone's Coming'. But they did manage to record a one-minute jingle for American radio endorsing General Foods' instant milkshake called Great Shakes with Keith on lead vocals and...

50 YEARS OF THE WHO
20 May 1967. A flying one-day visit to Belgium for The Who as they fly into Zaventem airport on this Saturday morning for a film shoot for RTB TV's Vibrato show where they mime to 'Happy Jack' and '\Pictures Of Lily' at a mock-cowboy town called Texas City in Tremelo, Belgium.

Later that night The Who headline at the Woluwe Festival just outside Brussels supported by The...

50 YEARS OF THE WHO
17 May 1967. After a week off from gigs following their mini tour of Scandinavia, The Who are back on the circuit again playing a gig at Mod stronghold, the Locarno Ballroom in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. By 1967 the cult of Mod had pretty much run its course and with the burgeoning Summer of Love about to unfold, The Who were glad to have shed their Mod image. The manager of...

5 May 1967. A Friday night concert for The Who at the Sporthallen in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Apparently The Who's performance was cut down to just five numbers as Pete was unhappy about the stage set-up. Judging by this photograph it looks like The Who were joined onstage by a group of bouncers to keep the fans in order. No wonder he wasn't happy.

Were you there? Can you tell...
