There’s very little room to doubt Tom’s innocence. Some critics have accused Lee of making the facts of the trial too black and white. We think Lee had to make it such for the novel to work as brilliantly as it does. As clear as it is to the reader that Tom is innocent, it is equally clear that he will not face a fair trial.
