It is the manner we leave and not the fact that (sadly) we are. It also challenges saint Theresa's autocratic behaviour which is good for everyone.

As we elect mp's they should listen the people in there area, so in theory the result should been the same. If not they don't represent there area and should quite anyway. So what I can't understand the argument. If anything is was keeping MPs honest.

He's actually kind of right, China has been unfairly using protectionism to improve it's exports. It's not that strange to retaliate to countries breaking free trade rules (maybe a bit more like guidelines but still) with protectionism of your own.

good idea. But lets not call them British values eh? There are already enough people in this country who think that being squirted out in Britiain makes them better than someone squirted out in syria
1 hours 45 minutes ago
Instead of teaching people "common British values" (something that clearly doesn't actually exist anyway), how about teaching people some basic human rights, critical thinking, and ethics. It doesn't matter which way you try and peddle nationalism, it will always be the divisive factor. This is what the gormless flag-humpers never understand, they are the problem not the solution.

Have we crossed over to where politics is pure satire now? Here we have a situation where people literally voting for nothing to change is being portrayed as a massive anti-establishment victory.

His biggest mistake was pin-pointing his career on the back of this referendum. He turned this into a witch hunt, against himself! 😂😂 whoopsie! If Tony Blair vowed to leave politics for good if we all made the decision to eat a ham sandwich tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar there would be a national shortage of pigs! 😂😂 Is this the EU's fault? Or the mistake of an egotistical prime minister. Both.
Why is it described as a 'blow to the EU'? Is it that when a country becomes politically unstable bad for the EU but good for the fascists, or what? Anyhow what was the referendum exactly about?

It was racist. He used Khan's race and religion as a way to attack him. You don't need to make a racist comment to run a racist campaign.

I'm not remotely surprised at The Spectator's 'come on chaps, give the chap a break' line. It's what you expect, the privileged few protecting their own. Goldsmith's Mayoral campaign was reprehensible and his by election campaign was vainglorious. He deserves every bit of criticism that he gets.

He may or may not be a racist, but his campaign definitely was.

Regardless of the actual outcome, the fact remains that there has been a shift to the right, and - in many cases - the far right. This doesn't mark the end of the far right; it's still growing stronger.
To defeat the far right, we need to have politicians who are more in touch, and who actually take on board the points people are raising, and that the far right are appealing to.
Although he did not win a hell of a lot of people voted for him. The vote for the far right is bigger now than it ever has been and it is likely to keep getting larger .

This let's others contribute to the Future of our country which is more democratic than the Tories becoming a one party state
12/03/2016 at 13:41
I'm still confused as to why politicians feel like they have to "respect the results of the referendum"?? When did 1/4 of a population become a majority?
12/03/2016 at 13:41
And then an election will be called, Labour will be wiped out and become irrelevant. Keep your nose out Corbyn and creep off back to obscurity. We need a proper opposition.

This is rubbish, I'm a labour member and Corbyn supporter but am disappointed we ran a candidate in Richmond. If I lived there, I wouldve voted tactically to keep Zach out and I'm sure alot of others did. This is proven by the fact that the labour membership in Richmond is higher than the votes for the labour candidate, it was pure tactics and says nothing about the parties direction as a whole.
12/03/2016 at 10:13
Labour have disappeared off the political map and no longer are a credible opposition since Corbyn took charge. He lives in the past. The by election was a wake up call - maybe Lib Dem can offer a route out of the madness that those Leave idiots have got us in. If I was Fallon I would seriously consider running on a 2nd referendum/remain ticket Remain. People are only just waking up to the stupid decision they made in the summer.
12/03/2016 at 11:30
I can no longer watch. I seethe with anger... I'll keep voting, because it's the only 'Power' I have... Other than that, let me know when some real (non-religious) action is being taken against our countries leadership... Because fighting on their own terms is one sided and corrupt... Jeremy Corbyn has a very simple valid argument against our government, yet somehow he's a laughing stock... In part by the hand of a previous leader of his OWN PARTY!!!!

Please explain how Zac Goldsmith's bi-election is a disaster for the conservatives. He quit the party over Heathrow, prompting the bi-election. The conservatives decided not to field a candidate against him, regardless of the result, they lost the seat anyway

Car crash?! 😂No substance at all, just sensationalist trash. Looks like we've really shaken the Right Wing Establishment! Above all its just nasty- Sarah had no interest in a political career until recently, having only joined the party last year! She has been thrust in at the deep end, and has very little press experience. Even she is never flustered or thrown, and is able to stay on message and keep her cool. Who even listens to "talk talk radio" anyway...😂

What the Richmond Park by-election has reinforced is how every paper/publication will post their own biased slant about a result as if they're speaking gospel, and that the media has become nothing more than a podium for the opinionated.

Purely anecdotal, but I come from a Leave constituency, and can say with confidence it would remain a Leave constituency if the referendum was held again tomorrow. A few vague scare stories from those at the top and the pound bottoming out has made little difference to the general mood among people outside of the London bubble, so Tim Farron should probably keep his panties on for now
12/02/2016 at 23:29
It tells the tories and labour that people will vote Lib Dem if they supported remain, rather than kowtow to the tyranny of the majority. Zac was a decent MP who had the backing of the Greens once upon a time, but still got the chuck for being in the wrong camp. It shouldn't be ignored.

Hardly a shock, it's been a Liberal seat since its creation with the exception of one Tory MP and voted heavily to remain. Stop writing the stories you want and start reporting facts.

Richmond, one of the wealthiest areas of the country. Not sure the Lib Dems are heading to a majority government. Winning seats with that anti-brexit stance outside of London will be difficult at best.
12/02/2016 at 14:56
Lib Dem area regains Lib Dem seat.... riiiight. Ok then Tim.
As for the language used; 'tolerant opposition'. I'd consider my words a little more carefully since your party propped up the Tories whilst they inflicted untold damage on the economy, the poor and the vulnerable. Or did you mean you will tolerate woeful Tory policy to get a sniff of power again?

I do listen to him on LBC quite regularly.
Truth be told I find it entertaining because he is fundamentally just asking for evidence from his callers more often that not and nearly all of the time the caller make sup claims or just outright refuses to give evidence.
12/02/2016 at 13:33
To be fair he gets an audience so fair play to him although I know quite a lot of people who switched him off in favour of Jon Gaunt on talk2meradio. James o sob is a creep who regularly puts out anti brexit rants and quite often smears anyone who is to the right of politics.
