USS Nimitz officially changed command today in a ceremony held in the ship's hangar bay. Capt. John Ring bid farewell to the ship and crew he's commanded since July 2014, turning over to Capt. Kevin Lenox. Fair winds and following seas Captain Ring!

And we give a warm welcome to our new commanding officer, Capt. Lenox.

It's a special day on board USS Nimitz today as Capt. John Ring will turnover command of "The Old Salt" after nearly two and-a-half years in command. The Nimitz Chiefs Mess gave him a special going away gift to honor him for what he's done for the ship and the Sailors in his command. Read the story here!

Nimitz CO Made Honorary Chief Petty Officer

The commanding officer of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) was named an honorary chief petty officer by the Nimitz command master chief and Chiefs Mess during a ceremony held in the ship's chiefs mess, Jan. 11.
