It may have inspired but it was definitely Whitby that features in the novel!, and is generally the most well known 'inspiration'
Er no it wasn't. Whitby Abbey and the town of Whitby were the inspiration. The characters the written using locals names with slight changes.

Thought it was Whitby abbey that inspired the Dracula story??

Is this the hidden valley where the stolen cattle were kept? As a complete fan of Susan Fletchers' Witch light I need to know this. Got a week booked at Glencoe in May, needing to stay there after our visit last year. So love it.
Walked up there a few month's ago,two summits conquered between the lost valley.
I was there in May got a tan, then in July got soaked through for the whole 26.2 miles and loved every minute of both walks - highly recommend to the whole world and its dog! Ace photo.

This photo was taken during the three minutes in the year when a, It wasn't raining....b, The sun shone and c, the clouds of midges that usually obliterate the view, had died. ............. No, it's beautiful. My Mum lived in England from 1940 until the day she died but when she spoke about HOME, she meant Scotland.

There are few better places if you have snow, but if you don't? Well, you need to be wrapped like a trawlerman just to get your paper! :D Just kidding: the country's gorgeous regardless.

Waking up to that view from the cabin is great. On an evening sitting in the hot tub glass of locally brewed beer looking at the reflection of the town lights on the surface of the loch.

My sister stays in Kinloch Rannoch and frequently has 17 stags come off the hill into her garden. Last week she watched one as it looked at her through her bedroom window.

Aren't they just the bonniest coo's in the whole world......I just love ❤ them. We have just bought an new sofa from M&S and I desperately want giant cushions with Highland coo's on them. Don't you think that'll set my tartan sofa off a treat. You can take the girl out of Scotland but you can't take Scotland out of the girl......it's still in my eyes the most beautiful place on earth Xxx

This photo happened as he hit the 25th rock hidden by heather with a light covering of wind scoured ice. The underneath of his skis look like an old tree trunk that's been used as a scratching post by an entire family of bears. Just LOVE Scottish skiing...

My first gallery experience more than 70 years ago. So looked forward to wet Sunday afternoons so I could visit this manically place! It's where I first fell in love with lace on a Victorian dress which inspired me to studying bobbin lacemaking and eventually becoming a teacher.
