None. They are the refuge of the damned. You seriously need to have a good hard look at yourself if you buy a performance SUV.
It's ironic that no matter how fast they make these semi-trailers for soccer Mums I always manage to find myself stuck behind them, unable to see the road in front, usually in the outside lane of a freeway, at 90k's an hour. Frankly what's the point of making a death-tank for the over-privileged fast if that's the way they they're driven 90% of the time?
Happy with my new CX9 Azami AWD but these are a step above. And those saying SUVs are crap because they can't be driven off road etc. Those of us who drive them love them and want great control on the road in situations like bad weather.
Go the SUV!

Is anyone able to shed light on what JD Power accept as a 'problem'? I gather reading between the lines that it is not necessarily anything major, but can an owner's complaint that they can't use the adaptive cruise count as a fault, too (etc.)?
True. Even my shitbox 2009 Ford Falcon that is Australian built rubbish with terrible build quality with nasty interior plastics has made it to 223,000km and hasn't broken down. Thought fords were meant to be crap and unreliable. Imagine the build quality/reliability of better brands like Toyota, VW, Mazda, BMW, Mercedes, and the quality and high mileage they would get to.

It's honestly pretty hard to buy a "bad" new car these days. Of course you get lemons within some cars...Jeep is often quoted but I know people with Jeeps who have had many years of trouble free motoring...but that's normal.

I think hydrogen powered cars will be the future as recent break throughs have been made here in Australia. Let's see what happens, I wouldn't buy one of the these, the batteries are still crap and what they are asking for them is rediculous !

The torque is instantaneous due to the fact that electric motors have no gears meaning maximum rpm range is produced instantly. They would be awesome to drive, if only I had a spare 120k lying around!!

And this is why I don't buy Wheels anymore. Modern cars are convenient and generally efficient......but have all the soul of a half sucked twistie.
06/23/2017 at 11:15
Well I'm not concerned if it's not as fast as newer cars but this one's quicker and stops better than any original A9X. The thumbs up are worth it. Don't deny new cars don't have benefits from 40 years of technology thou.
06/23/2017 at 11:14
It is a fool who doesn't appreciated the truly analogue experience that only a classic car can provide......shame on you Wheels Australia, I assumed you were true enthusiasts, I was clearly wrong....

I think u will find the WRX will stay with a direct injection Turbo engine. But the STI will get a hybrid motor to boost pwr over the WRX and can be built into the higher sti pricing!
06/23/2017 at 07:41
whatever works for them. They have to do something to keep buyers who need four doors and performance keen after this year when there will be no more local car industry to protect.I wonder how many XR6 OR SV6 OR SS Falcons/Commodores are used as trade in's on WRX'S OR LEVORGS.

Not just WRX buyers want manual. Levorg buyers wants manual too. Subaru can easily put a manual gearbox in Levorg but they are just not willing to 😖

"Turning off manuals in mainstream Subaru's"
That'd be because you can only buy the majority of them now with CVT!!!
60/40 split on WRX's is far from the 'drop the manual' territory. Not surprised the XV soft SUV is >85% auto/cvt, it's no brain drive soccer mobile.
06/23/2017 at 07:35
Shame they don't do manuals well. Their five speed is old and clunky and their 6 speed is too big and heavy. My last manual Subaru almost turned me off manuals. Appallingly dead mushy clutch feel.

Test drove one this morning. Nice ride and in the conditions the engine was OK (better than expected). CVT was noisy (made the engine noisy anyway) but otherwise OK. Loaded with safety features but I thought all the coloured screens and animations made the dash look a bit gimmicky. Overall, seemed like a good car that still occupies a unique position in the market.
06/23/2017 at 01:41
I drove one too and also found it to be gutless. I HATE cvt's. But apart from that, typical top notch Subaru build quality and dependability.
06/23/2017 at 01:04
Test drove one back when they first came out, one that had the CVT...do they still have that? It just...felt wrong and it was pretty gutless...other than that it was well equipped and a nice drive.
