Should of slapped a Holden badge on one of these and called it a commodore seems like the perfect replacement to me
12/07/2016 at 10:16
This is what happens when passion is over taken by money hungry corporates. They burn the brand to the extent where there are no return. COMMODORE is an aussie icon and cannot be replaced by cheap imitation. #GMfails
12/07/2016 at 10:07
Not a Commodore, it is an Insignia. It isn't built here so cannot be called Commodore.

It's clear the public aren't happy with the Commodore name being used on an imported car. So what was Holden thinking with the decision to keep the badge?

Remember the Epica and Malibu? No... neither do I. This I fear is destined for the same fate.
Weird that Australia in general is ok with a Daewoo rebadged as a Holden (Captiva, Barina, Trax) yet aren't happy with a rebadged Opel.
12/07/2016 at 07:42
If you would buy this car for being a Commodore, then you would care about the death of Australian motor manufacturing. Keeping the name is a slap in the face.
12/07/2016 at 07:41
It's going to appeal to a completely different market a new name would be better the old name makes it irrelevant and may even put of the hatchback buzz box buyers who may be tempted to buy a more appropriately named vehicle.

Its like a metaphor for Australian culture these days, utterly neutered, tamed, passive, dull and easily dismissed. What a complete triumph of mediocrity, as someone who owns Old holdens, real holdens and has loved them since I was very young, I can't find one thing about this car that would inspire a child as young as I was when I first saw them and thought "cool".
12/07/2016 at 02:44
NG must be Nugget abbreviated.
I have no qualm with it being badged a Holden (blame GM for their bullshit overuse of brand names, unlike Ford, Toyota etc)
But it needs another name other than Commodore. When the Kingswood was retired the name was too. This new generation needs a new name.

What a shame that no Journo, will ever equal Robbos skills in putting the reader in the drivers seat. Robbo, is the author of my youth, along with occasional contributions from David McKay and Bill Tuckey. (Romsey Quints). When they stopped writing, I stopped buying.

As I've said before, at least the Falcon was allowed to die with dignity! What a tragedy Holden think they can put the commodore badge on this rubbish.

This is what could tip me to buy my first Ford. I have only ever owned commodores, but at least Ford had the decency to drop the Falcon name.
Quite a classy looker, especially profile and rear three-quarter. I suspect many will hate purely because it replaces the local precious Commodore and makes the error of continuing with its name, but overall I'm pleasantly surprised. Oh, and it's good to have a wagon option to get around the 'must have SUV' mentality, although the roof line would seriously compromise room.
Holden's last locally built six-cylinder engine was bolted together a week ago. Although they never received the same acclaim as the big V8s, it is well worth celebrating the Aussie six!

Had a XU1 Torana, that car flew. Later I picked up an XU1 engine from the wreckers and dropped it in a EK Holden. The EK would clean up a 302 Windsor over the 1/4. Great engine.

I'm a ford guy, and even I can't understand how you can compare the last v6 to that inline motor, the v6 jaws always a crap engine
yesterday at 11:11
Pre fuel injection, overhead cam, double overhead cam, electronic ignition and four valves per cylinder, but other than that fairly good. That was the trouble with Aussie cars, they fed us on a diet of everything average for years.

It makes you question why the boring looking VW Tiguan won your COTY when they have had these queries hanging over them for some time? What does VW have over Wheels with their constant wins when they really are an ordinary and small vehicle.
12/05/2016 at 21:46
Yes let's put restrictions in them so they use more fuel and make less power just to keep a bunch of greenies happy seems like a good idea ...

At least nowadays they make people movers well-featured and pretty nicely styled with decent power.
Gone are the days where "Honey we really need to buy a people mover" meant a guy felt like slashing his wrists as he contemplated a life of driving a boring ugly box on wheels which wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and which handled like the commercial vehicle they were based on.

Long line of patient people waiting. .......arrogant asshole drives past em all then cuts someone off to jump the queue. .......
Wouldn't do it at the bank or supermarket, don't on the roads.
And keep bloody left unless overtaking.
12/05/2016 at 10:49
Another pet hate is the dickhead travelling in the left lane on a freeway when a line of cars is trying to enter said freeway and is too stupid to move into one of the two empty lanes next to them and allow the merging traffic to enter smoothly. 😞
12/05/2016 at 10:17

12/05/2016 at 20:05
Hype it as much as you want Wheels. Nobody cares what the next "Holden" "Commodore" looks like. It might be a nice looking Opel, but it ain't a Conmodore and it's not ours!
